I am a 2021 university grad and have these two offers currently. I am confused whether to join sharechat as data scientist or microsoft research as a research fellow which is a 1-2 yrs research position. Compensation at Microsoft Research: 14L base + 2L joining bonus + variable performance bonus Compensation at Sharechat: 27L base + 3L joining bonus + 2.5L performance bonus + 24L ESOPs + other benefits I am thinking from future prospects point of view. Currently, have plans for higher studies MS after 1-2 yrs most probably. Also, keep in mind from where I can get better research opportunities which can be beneficial for my masters. Kindly provide valuable suggestions along with some feedback. Really need help asap. #Research #datascientist #masters
I work at MSRI as a dev. The RF program is worth it only if you plan to go for a PhD (masters to a lesser extent).
If I decide on MS, then what would you suggest?
You'll have a publication or two, and great LoRs, so that improves your odds at universities you wouldn't get today. So if the monetary hit is something you're okay with, I'd go ahead with it.
If you have further studies plans then MSR is by far the better option.
Lol at the idiots here trying to compare TC. Msr research fellow is not a full time engineer job. It's a research fellow program, aimed to produce PhD students. OP which team at MSR are you matched for?
Yes, I agree. If I plan for MS and not PhD, then what would be your opinion??
Why do you want to do an MS?
If you're just looking to go for an MS, joining MSR isn't of much use. Most MS programs are taught, as opposed to research-focused. So maybe optimize your savings to pay for your MS tuition. But in case you want to do a research MS, or go for a PhD, I wouldn't miss MSR RF
MSR RF if you want to do research or want to have a shot at MS at Stanford/CMU or do PhD. If you want to get to any top 10-15 school in US and work afterwards, I would say join sharechat.
I would suggest join sharechat gain some industry experience and then go for research. Considering the pay out sharechat has offered..I think it would be wise to join as you get to work on interesting and challenging problem statements and more over it’s an employee centric organisation.
How is WLB there?
If you're truly interested in research or doing a PhD in the US, go to MSR. The experience will be unparalleled. Something only very few academic labs in India can offer. Plus, you'll get to work with highly respected and published researchers in the industry. Consider it as a great launchpad for entering highly competitive CS PhD programmes.
Where did you join. I have an offer from Sharechat and Salesforce. So in a pretty Similar pickle.

There's definitely a lot more catchet of having Microsoft on your resume over Sharechat. But IMO the pay difference is big, try to push MS HR.
Yes I tried but it's not happening. The pay difference is something that is bothering me, rest microsoft will be better. Thanks for your input.
