4 YOE at Northrop Grumman as a Systems/signal processing engineer with coding and limited ML experience; I do not have good ML fundamentals but want to break into an MLE/DS role within FAANG to get more adequate compensation and be in my area of interest…should a masters be in the cards at all? P.S. Ms in DS at UCLA is a hybrid between EE and Cs classes, not sure about the other ones #dataanalytics #datascience
just interview
MLE and DS have reasonably different interview loops at FAANG if you want to get a degree instead of self-studying, consider a CS degree if you want MLE and a stats degree if you want DS
The degree does look worthwhile and rigorous. But there’s a stigma against data science degrees. However, with a school like UCLA, you’ll definitely get FAANG data scientist interviews. Those would likely be limited to analytics (not nlp, cv, etc). In any case, agree with above that stats looks better for data science and CS looks better for MLE interviews (doubt you can get FAANG MLE interviews with data science degree). You could even get FAANG MLE interviews with a (not applied) stats degree since you have engineering experience
Just leetcode and apply to be a SWE. MS is a huge waste of you just want a FAANG job
