Current TC: $75k YOE: <1 Received an offer from Activision Blizzard for a Software Engineer position. Should I take it and move to a location in Cali (unknown yet)? Or stay with the company I’m at now where the pay is garbage but at the very least I can work from home, and don’t have to move to Cali? I’m currently in the Greater Seattle Area. #JobOffer #software #engineering #videogames #swe Salary: $90k Sign on bonus: $5k Bonus: $15k Relocation bonus: $7.5k Edit: I really don’t like TCS. My job is not at all related to programming. Right now I’m splitting rent and my share is about $2.2k a month and I’m doing just fine. Not sure if that helps explain things or not.
On this salary moving to California? Please don't. You're gonna get hammered real hard with this comp. Grind and get better offers.
Lowballed
If living on your own and independence is important to you, I would take the offer. But cost of living in Cali is high, so you might not be saving as much as your current setup
Damn why so low? Clearly that’s not suitable for Cali.

That’s helps explain ( thought you were living rent free with parents). You can get a decent apartment for 2.2k in most places that’s not Bay Area/LA in cali. I think blizzard HQ is in Irvine so maybe look into rent costs there to get an idea of the monthly costs for your living style
Is this for the level up u program I read about? https://careers.activisionblizzard.com/LevelUpU
Yes
Right, so are they going to pay you the same amount after you get placed or is that just for during the training? Have to take that into consideration.
Having worked for TCS in the past I would say just get out of it ASAP. Being in California and Activision blizzard on your CV you will get better opportunities than working at shitshop.
Someone gets its lol
And never work for a body shop again!!
Sounds like a good opportunity, you’ll likely work in Irvine. Cost of living is similar to Seattle. Blizzard is a way better name to have on your resume, plus if you do real coding that’s even more reason to move. With Blizzard being bought out by Microsoft, maybe comp will improve drastically in the near future.
This ^. Learn a lot at Blizzard and keep applying to other studios here. With Blizzard on your resume, will be able to get into many others that pay double. I stay in West LA at 2.2k a month too in a 700sqft 1bed. Not sure how much cheaper Irvine is though.
From the Level Up email I saw, they offer to fly you out for a few in person weeks, which would imply that at least the first few months are remote. Are you required to move to California at the end of the training program?
It depends on where you will be placed afterwards, it will likely be California though.
Do you know if you can continue to work remotely after the end of the training? (Is relocation mandatory?)

Why they paying peanuts?
Gaming industry is like that. They don’t need top tech talent like faang does (low demand). Also high supply of computer nerds who are very likely to be passionate about computer games.
