Im not an software engineer at Bloomberg, but have some technical background. Im a good performer at my current job, but I’m that person who’s always doing things in the side. I can’t just do my full time job and wait for the next time I go to work. I have that entrepreneurial mindset yet feel not ready to quit. I’m currently working on a mobile app that bloomberg users can definitely benefit from. It’s for public use, but this app won’t be useful unless there is a strong network effect. Something like slack, but users won’t need to share any confidential data or information. My question here is, can I promote this app at bloomberg? And how do I go about it? Would HR cause me trouble if they knew about my hustle thing? Should I just stay away from bloomberg and look to promote it other places (companies). Need help!
Check with HR or internal docs about policies on outside work. You don't have to tell what you are doing to get that info.
How would I get them to promote my app within the company?
Unless you think your manager and cross functional partner are super supportive, I wouldn't do this at work. I would clearly segregate my job and side hustle.
