Slack founders daughter is missing

https://sfstandard.com/2024/04/23/slack-ceos-teen-child-reported-missing-san-francisco/ She is thought to be in Tenderloin -- she is 16 years old, and is known to suffer from substance abuse. What are your thoughts on this matter? I hope she is found safe and can recover, but two billionaire parents have a child that suffers from substance abuse. Do you think billionaire parents are usually bad parents (since they have no time to take care of kids)?

Missing child. Let’s talk smack about her 🤦🏼

Intention wasn't to talk smack, but to facilitate a rational conversation about how wealth influences parenting...

the first thing I do on a new phone is to turn off AMBER alerts

Lots of wealthy people deal with substance abuse, too much money and nothing to do with it when you already have everything you could want. Likely a variety of factors involved that had little to do with the parents, hope they find her.

SoFi acesfull OP Apr 23

Hmm what are other factors? I would thought the kid would have been sent to a top private school and if she was struggling with substance abuse, be sent to rehab. Obviously not sure why happened but it's a sad situation all around and I'm hoping for the best.

You really think substance abuse issues discriminate on background? Anybody can deal with it private school or not

Apollo RayeshP Apr 23

Praying they find her. This is brutal on any parent and I can’t imagine what she’s going through. Substance abuse is too often a consequence of living in luxury and having few catharses.

Lucid Motors !MikeBell Apr 24

STFU! I am poor and know a lot of my peers that abused a lot of stuff because they needed an escape. Living in luxury is not the case

Apollo RayeshP Apr 24

What you’re saying and what I’m saying are not contradictory statements. Both can be true. Substance abuse is often a consequence of living in luxury, but it is also a consequence of poverty. It’s a coping mechanism.

We shouldn’t draw such harsh judgments and conclusions. The reality is that the drugs on the street these days are RADICALLY more addictive than anything that existed when we were kids. Also they’re DESIGNED to be addictive, designed by China to destroy the US.

Ok but “Mint Butterfield, last seen in Tenderloin” is a CRAZY sentence.

That’s the thing about rich kids, they already got everything they’ll ever need, so they don’t have any healthy thing that can give them dopamine. Normal people get dopamine from improving their situations. For rich kids, drugs is their only way to get any pleasure.

Uber ♾️ Apr 23

Depends on their upbringing. There are many rich kids who don't get involved in this shit. This is probably the parents fault.

Microsoft pMNX65 Apr 23

Tons of poor and homeless are into drugs as well.

SoFi acesfull OP Apr 23

Yes but I'm curious how the kids of CEOs/top 1% fare compared to kids of above average parents.

just bad parenting...nothing to see here.
