I recently interviewed at @slack. I chose to do a take home exercise and was rejected with very little feedback. Just “there were a few areas that didn’t meet expectations”, very vague. I delivered a pretty comprehensive solution, well tested, and with some very good integration tests. I put a lot of effort into it. I felt like I was chasing some hidden requirements. And not even a chance to talk to anyone about my solution or design choices. Overall a really shitty experience. I’m disappointed in what our industry has become. Maybe I dodged a bullet? #engineering #slack #interviewed #interview
How would slack know ML didn't do it all 🤔 New upcoming AI training test?
Slack is dumpster after salesforce
if you wanted to have a back and forth with an interviewer with plenty of feedback, why choose the take home?
Don’t recommend slack honestly. There are lots of better options even in this market.
What's wrong with Slack?
1. pay is aligned with what Salesforce pay. In a team of mixed pre and post acquisition people, you will earn significant less then your pre acquisition counterparts. The loss aversion will hit you hard. Unless you are staff+, no stock refresh, no additional stock in promotion 2. it’s our 3rd CEO in 2 years. The OGs left. Salesforce provides financial cushion but also means no talents want to join. 3. everything is about AI now. but it’s a hot mess I’d say think about what Slack both as a workplace and a product will be in 2-3 years. The closest comparison I can think of is Atlassian a few years ago. Or even Tableau after the acquisition.
Take home assignments are big NO. Congratulations
