Slight dip in the market, stock recommendations?

Given the current dip in the market from all time highs, good time to buy? If so which ones, for long term investment (say atleast 9-12 months min). New grad here. Opened an account few days ago. Bought AMD, NVIDIA, MSFT, VTI, VGT for now. Good calls? Edit: Also, how accurate are the stock research reports available online? Any good ones? Was following thomson reuters. #personalfinance #investments #stocks

12 months is not long term by the investing jargon. Look into some books so that you can make your own choices, my fav one is “The simple path to wealth” by JL Collins. He has a talk at google as well, which is worth listening to. You should also explore other recommended books so you will understand different stategies and their implications.

Cool thanks. Yeah i know, my dad used to invest long term. Usually 5-15 years 😂

BABA

Amazon Pied_pippr OP Jan 9, 2022

Highly volatile. Noticed sell sentiment. Any good reason to buy?

Spotify cafedead Jan 9, 2022

@pied_pippr buy low, sell high. If there is buy sentiment and stock is rushing up, obviously you’re not buying low, by definition. Also Charlie Munger went in recently, I’d trust him more, than a market sentiment, if you’re truly long term (9 months ain’t long term)

Max out 401k and Roth first. Also, long term is 5 years + not 1 lol

Does maxing out mean contributing enough to get the max of employer's match?

I'm new that's why the question.

The companies you listed have not dipped enough.

This is for reference, don't listen to them blindly.

Meta igdragon Jan 9, 2022

Agreed ^. Don’t follow anyone blindly. Many Wall Street “analysts” don’t know their shit half as well as YouTubers in t-shirts and shorts. Follow the money trail. Think for yourself.

Meta igdragon Jan 9, 2022

1 year isn’t long term. I’d say at least 5. My picks: TSLA, COIN, and LMND. Each is a solid contender in their category. LMND is real cheap and beat up. TSLA has a long ass way to go (holding 400k worth until 2030). COIN is a solid first mover in the crypto wave.

Spotify cafedead Jan 9, 2022

Honestly I don’t see how coin is competitive. What’s their edge comparing to the other marker players?

Amazon Pied_pippr OP Jan 9, 2022

Yeah interested in tsla, but it's pretty high now. Waiting for a correction. Thinking about SQ in payments space, pretty much down. Maybe a good bet.

Real estate prices are going up but Redfin, Zillow and Compass are down by a lot. You could try those. Airlines travel can peak by this summer. Those are also good stocks.

Amazon Pied_pippr OP Jan 9, 2022

You may have a point. But my investment approach is to prioritize steady gains over quick returns. Hence personally don't like stocks with high volatility.

Uber timorlane Jan 9, 2022

Indexed ETFs are the best for long term steady gain. I keep more than 50% of my stock investment on ETFs.

LCID NVDA TSLA VTI QQQM

Amazon Pied_pippr OP Jan 9, 2022

Why is LCID a good bet? Strongest possible competitor for TSLA? Any chance they miss their sales target for 2022?

Workday peakon Jan 9, 2022

I bet it for longer term. I hold quite a large unit; I believe they can become 5x to 10x easily in next 10 years in EV world. Not much in shorter term like say until 2023 or so; they need to do a lot but they will is my analysis
