Snowflake Computing is humiliating engineers by firing them for low performance every 3 months. The HRBP at Snowflake has been forcing senior managers to have a hard 10% Quota for Do Not Meets Expectations and forcefully giving it undeserving to IC3-Senior engineers. This toxicity happens at Amazon and other places as well but at least it's yearly. And they have a PIP option so that people can improve. Snowflake directly fires engineers so that, the remaining engineers can be scared into working harder. When you have no cushion, you are simply shit-scared. Unfortunately a lot of their senior engineers are men with families in their 30s and can't put up 70 hour work weeks. And they use this 10% Firing Quota every 3 months to humiliate these married men with mortgages & visa status. This needs to be exposed and we need to ensure people are aware of the secret firing that is going on at Snowflake. Their drones defend this practice by calling it "Performance Management" . In reality they know they won't be affected by it because it's always the new hires who are thrown into this Fire Quota by upper management. Like this post and comment on it so that it's the most trending one for people to know the realities
Bunch of snowflakes
Indeed
PIP culture seems to be tied with the growing failure to deliver new and useful products these companies are giving.
PIP culture is tied to too many levels and too many managers - which throttles innovation and adaptation. PIPing engs and product ICs will not suddenly fix this problem.
Datadog gets it. I heard Datadog also engaged in silently firing engineers this past quarter with a fixed Quota due to stock failures? Is it true ?
U got a valid point. But change the lens to frank and see that u paying 300k-500k salaries to these folks and u r not profitable yet. Would board/investors let him sit relax? No they will corner him to either get the costs under control or they will oust him out! Look at what is happening to salesforce, disney and so many others
That's okay. I am doing my job of exposing Frank Slootman and his terrible evil policies ! They are legal in what they do but doesn't mean it's ethical and people need to be aware of what they are signing up for.
Paying engineers high salaries is rarely the reason as to why a company is not profitable. Management is always quick to put the blame on engineers, but they’re only building the vision management set. So maybe the board should look towards frank and VPs
So snowflake is a business? And you are exposing basic performance management? This is a feature, not a bug
Meta has a biyearly perf review. 10-15% is given MM rating. 1 MM rating serves as a warning and not a PIP. Even after that, 2 back to back MM ratings triggers a PIP and even then it's a PIP where people can actually put in the effort to improve. There is difference between what Meta does and what Snowflake does.
So much misinformation in one comment
I don't get why they fired their engineers tbh. If any, it should be the Sales, Management and PMs. Engineers don't break or make a company at Snowflake level, Sales, PM and Management do. If the PM can't find new modules or a new market to sell or if Sales can't close potential customers, why blame Engineers?
It's simple. Hiring only senior engineers who are in their 30s and married with mortagages and then firing them with a fixed quota is a very Humiliating experience for that person. What better way to scare those men to work harder ?
You forgot engineering “leaders” who spend most of their time finding folks to fill quotas
This is what I’ve been telling people. The culture at Snowflake is very cutthroat
has it always been this way or has it changed since the tech layoffs?
Culture has changed tremendously in the past year. The companies unrecognizable is basically another corporate drone company like Amazon. I’m looking to leave like a lot of others
People joining snowflake are already aware of the expectations.
Nope. The ones in Bay Area might be aware and that's why Snowflake is having a hard time hiring in bay area which is why they are moving to Seattle area hiring to trap the lowly paid Azure and AWS talent. Unfortunately many of them might be unaware of Snowflake's secret firing Quota and it's important that we make such kind of truthful posts trending so that the naive are made aware !
How come it’s so hard to get a job at CrowdStrike haha feel like I’m trying to join Netflix 😢
I really don't understand where is Snowflake's most. Why can't people just use the databases offered by the big clouds.
Why do people use AMD when they can just use NVDIA or Intel?
This is happening at Salesforce too.
What ? No I don't think so. No one I know is directly fired at Snowflake.

Is "From the River to the Sea" So Wrong?
You could have just posted this as a review
Nope. We need to ensure this trends like fire so that the management is exposed of their wrong-doings and the visa workers in Seattle and Bay Area avoid them like plague.
If you don't want to work in high performance business apply for government jobs?
