I am interviewing at XYZ for a Solutions Architect position. They are paying for my flight and miscellaneous travel related expenses. That is pretty standard but usually wouldn't the company test your skills before flying you out ? It was weird cause it only spoke with the recruiter. Then I was given an example scenario to showcase my capabilities by creating a presentation. I submitted it . Now I have a interview, there I have to present it in person . I am fine with presenting too but did they even check the PowerPoint? What it's not what they are looking for? Did they just waste money? I have been a Software Engineer for 6 year and I had to pass a technical screen before going in person . All this seems weird to me. Any suggestions?
Maybe they are sending you to a customer. Win the business and win a second interview 😉
Lol . It's at their headquarters . Going to be with the Director of Engineering.
MV,ca?
Texas. They are based in CA though .
Good luck.
Not weird, you just have people who have researched you extensively
I agree. I'm able to guess which company it is..one thing to remember is your interview starts right after you enter the building.
Be careful - Tata in San Jose paid for my interview flight , then sent me an email an hour before the interview saying it was canceled because none of the prior 5 phone interviews had recorded feedback into their recruitment platform (I went to the office anyway) ... then they stuffed me on the hotel and misc expenses
TCS did this to me too years ago. Emailed me while I was ON THE PLANE. I got the email when I landed so I showed for the interview anyways. They treated me like I was stupid, and I just told them that I was already here, might as well. So they interviewed me. It was pretty terrible. Then they refused to reimburse my flight because they cancelled.
Thanks for replying - not surprised it’s a pattern with TCS - I got the impression the Director I interviewed with might not have had permission to bring me on — it was incredibly shifty for them to send an email saying my application had been closed for non-activity within 45 days, right before an interview that I traveled to
Just go and nail it
Wouldn’t overthink it. I had a company fly me out this past week for the same role and all of the people I was supposed to meet ended up calling in over Zoom

Why I Find Free Palestine Inspiring
Honestly, I'd a phone call first. I can only think of one company in Chicago that ever flew me out first. Dont really recall what the company was (didnt get the job).
Yeah a phone call seems reasonable then if they like you, fly that person out. It was just odd to me. Maybe they did review the PowerPoint? Idk . I'll find out next week.
