Been with Qualcomm with yoe of 10 years. Have a Sonos principal SWE offer. I don’t know what the level means with respect to rest of the industry. What offer could I expect given the market? Never negotiated in my life so I don’t even know how to begin. Current TC: 430k
What designation you have at QC?
I’m at Staff. Didn’t get promoted last year due to not having put min number of years required for the level though delivered on all fronts at Sr Staff.
What are the min number of years
Is principal at Sonos same as principal at QC? I doubt that.
I have worked at Sonos and pretty sure they will not be able to beat your current TC but they do decent offers.
Qcom staff engineer getting 430K?!?!!!
Sonos will never be able to beat $430k they just announced layoff to save cost.
What's your YOE & location? How do you expect any decent answers without providing at least those 2 critical points?
Sorry, corrected my post. Position is remote
Sonos principal level is so inflated, it pretty much equals to L6 in Amazon and ICT4 in Apple...I have seen ppl got principal position with only 4 year working expereince(with a phd though)..Max TC for Sonos principal level would be 250k (180k base+25k bonus+40k~50k RSU per year). Your profile and current TC matches with a distinguished engineer level better. However, why bother even consider to make the move to Sonos. It is clearly a sinking boat just took a look at their stock price, will tank to single digit anytime soon. I think they are in a severe cost-saving stage and cancelled employee's base merit last year also with reduced bonus. Less and less ppl will spend their money to buy pricey speakers these days..
I see. Thanks for the feedback. I should have mentioned that my vesting has reached a cliff so this year I expect to make 350k at QC. Sonos came back with offer of ~285k. Position is remote but I live in hcol and can’t move. I’m confused if I should continue to interview or accept. Reason to accept is only because the work would allow me to develop skillset in other areas of SWE though some of it I can acquire with self-learning and building my own projects for practice (though not sure how much that would be valued on resume compared to gaining the same skillset through Sonos).
Your TC is quite likely to be much less than 285k due to stock price depreciation and their promised 15% bonus (which is purely based on company performance). Good luck!
Are you principal at Qualcomm right now? Cause I’m pretty sure Sonos doesn’ reaches $400k+ even for principal.
