Have an upcoming interview with Square - wondering if anyone is able to share any tips. They mentioned it’s not exactly LC but still focuses on DS&A and it’s also a pair programming exercise.
It’s always LC. Interviewers have getting lazy and lazy every day.
Which role?
SWE, not sure what level, seems they have a flat structure?
Just accepted an offer from square I did 2 phone screens and 3 coding rounds on site, all the questions were not LC questions They are multipart questions that start easy and get progressively harder and they care about communication and finding a working solution I would say the hardest part is managing your time to make sure you solve all parts
Same experience. In my first round I struggled a bit with Codesignal which slowed me down a bit. I would recommend OP trying this tool out beforehand.
What offer did you get?
This is said to all candidates, but I will reiterate it here: 1. Use a language you know well and use daily. Do not use Python or Ruby if you are a professional Java developer. Also, don’t use a language because you think it will impress the team. You are allowed to look thing up, but if you don’t know how to instantiate a class in an OOP language, you will have a bad time. 2. You need to mix speed with code quality. The more senior the role, the more will be graded on code quality (at least for my interviews). 3. Communicate your thoughts and acknowledge your interviewer’s questions.
Does Square actually run candidate code?
Yes! We currently use something called CodeSignal, which is similar to CoderPad.

What happens when most of your team is Indian?
It's hardly pair programming. Its same as typical LC interview with non sense thrown around
