Hi Everyone, I am currently having 2 offers, one from a startup and other from Deloitte. In both of them , I can work in Oracle cloud ERP. In startup I will get the chance to work on data analysis or be a BI engineer which I am thinking of moving to as I am good with sql, python. Deloitte is around 160k + 15% bonus Startup is 160k only From my current organization I will be taking a pay cut as I am in old Oracle ERP system and can’t take evening calls between 5:00 - 8:00 PM. Current TC: 170k plus 10% bonus. Just to add, the startup ( Heliogen )is CSP space. They use solar energy to create hydrogen, capture co2 or use heat in industry. They are pre revenue but listed via spac. Deloitte: Only Oracle cloud Startup: Oracle cloud + python+ BI analyst
Deloitte is a brand name. You will get a chance to learn a lot.
I would go with Deloitte. You can work on multiple projects which is as good as working at multiple startups.
No options at a startup? Not that it’s worth anything right now but weird they wouldn’t offer you any. What’s WLB for devs at Deloitte. I’ve always considered a place young people go to get overworked and underpaid.
Yes no options as of now. They paying me equity of 21k which will vest in 4 years. As I mentioned I want to move out to data engineer or more tech role as I am good with tech but unfortunately in Oracle erp I do not have options.
It will be great if you can give a reason why I should join startup. That will help me out
Where are you now?
Munchkin
I would get out of oracle ERP. Not sure if you’re on the functional or technical side, but theirs definitely a ceiling of growth in that product. Go to a startup. Try to wear different hats. May have to put some extra effort in trying to get involved on the data eng/analytics/science side but at least the option will exist for you. You’ll be trapped in oracle at Deloitte. & client service work isn’t all that fun.
@DNxK12 thanks for saying what I was feeling. I am Technical by birth and Functional by choice. Yes I agree with you that I will remain trap in Oracle. Even I was having hard time to get a job in Oracle cloud as people need cloud experience without looking for domain knowledge.
Clearly people who haven’t set their foot into a Deloitte office here are all voting for a startup (which is giving you what might become a shit stock, 21k after 4 years? Lol). Deloitte for brand name, learning opportunities, client-facing. If you’ve never been client-facing, you want that experience, or you’ll hit a wall late in your career, “no consulting experience,” when attempting to get hired/change companies. Deloitte you will work for top 500 companies, probably top 100. FAANG jumps possible. You can literally go anywhere — AND they’re offering a 15% bonus. This shouldn’t even be up for debate.
You are absolutely right and that’s why I am confused. But, If money was thing I would stay in my current company. Deloitte has its own perks about working on cutting edge technologies but this startup gives me an opportunity to move out of Oracle which is really a contained environment. When I was in Oracle ERP, not a single company was ready to hire me as I do not had cloud experience but no body took into consideration about my domain experience. With start up I might get a chance to switch to data engineer but again it a risk. I am also looking for WLB as I want to spend time with my kid and hence doubt about Deloitte.
Don’t worry about sticking to a specific technology in Deloitte. You can easily move around and that’s the beauty of it. When I worked there, I started working on a lame technology project and then I targeted another project where I would get the learn the most recent tech. Deloitte gave me that opportunity and I’m very grateful for it. Working at consulting firm like Deloitte gives you lot of different opportunities where you can experiment by changing projects. You won’t get that any product based companies.
Startup sounds cool as heck. SQL + Python is sweet
I will not work on sql and python, but I will or might get a chance to work on that. I want to move out Oracle and into data engineer
