Just had a phone interview with stitchfix for datascientist position and the hiring manager metioned they don’t negotiate for salary. Is this true? For L3 190k base and 180k equity over 4 years. Is this good compensation? For a family of two. Spouse doesn’t work and in Bay Area? How much worth is stitchfix equity?
Is it fixed $180k value or $180k from current value ? Also any sign on bonus and bonus at end of year ?
No mention of sign on bonus. I think 180k fixed value.
How many YOE do you have and what’s your current comp?
Yrs experience as a applied researcher. Current Conor at Amazon 220k (135 base) in Seattle
I think Stitch is a great place with a lot of smart people. You don’t have any kids, it would be a great learning experience, and there are plenty of other opportunities in SF once you get here. You can always move back to Amazon when you have kids if you’re worried about COL.
From H1B salaries they made offers at 190k base and 234k base. So it seems you got the standard base salary for the position.
Yeah. That’s it! So no negotiations then I guess. How good is it compared to Bay Area fang salaries?
Basically, L5 for engineering heavy data scientist from what I’ve seen maxes out around 370ish for Lyft, Airbnb, Facebook, Uber etc. Those are obviously hard to land though. Stitch’s 234k base offer is likely the equivalent of the L5 at those other places I mentioned.
Not negotiating is a mistake.
Get competing offers and take the competing offer instead
Always negotiate. Every single time.
Hi! Congratulations on the offer! I have an opportunity to interview with them as well! Would love some pointers wrt. the interview process!
It’s true. We don’t have salary ranges or bands. We have market based salaries and everyone at the same level, in the same role and location, make the same amount. It’s a weird feeling as a candidate but as an employee, especially if you aren’t the best negotiator, it’s pretty great. As a company focused on women and diversity in general this practice helps level the playing field. Also, salary reviews every 6 months then everyone w your role gets a raise at the same time. I’ve gotten one each time.
