(I don't mean to create panic) Saw this news today . Will this impact H1b visa transfer as well? https://qz.com/1214137/usciss-h-1b-visa-rule-trump-administration-has-just-made-it-even-harder-for-indian-techies-to-get-visas/
I am an Indian on H1B and I support any move that allows quality folks getting Visa, I know folks with poor IT knowledge getting H1B working at clients and earning a bad reputation for the overall Indian tech community
I'm so glad about this. All the incompetent vendors have been DDOS'ing the fuck out of the GC queue. They've got to go. Legit folks deserve a fair chance.
I do agree but heard most h1b extn beyond 6yrs are getting either rejected or RFE which is not good.
For consulting companies only...don’t spread FUD.
It’s true, I got rfe for h1b extension, perm and i140
Depending on which side of the fence you are on, it is bad or good.
As a foreigner .. i think it makes sense.
I hope the consulting companies rot in hell. Obama didn’t care about fixing the skilled immigration system - neither reducing the green card wait times for employees, nor cracking down on H-1B abuse. Based on his actions (because that is the only accurate way to judge), he only cared about illegals. Thank God for Trump.
This is a welcome move
Making h1b transfer easier would benefit citizens too.
It is already in play, in the past couple months I have seen three H1 transfer denials. Two within Apple’s vendor just as article describes, and one for a smaller startup who was hiring a phd guy to write new algorithms for the new type of software they create. The response was “you can train someone to do this job”. One case is pretty unfortunate: a person who has a home here and filed for gc in 2013 was laid off during company restructure in December. Pretty bad time to search for a new job, so she agreed to join the consulting company and they immediately found her a project within Apple. She started running things from day 1 and demonstrated her excellence, but month later she’s got an RFE. And it looks like as a client there is nothing I can do to help her prove that she is qualified and doing a job that requires 10-15 years of experience. She had to quit and we ended up taking someone less experienced.
Was that less experienced person a US citizen?
Nope, we ended up having a choice between a person on L1 and someone with an EAD from a spouse.
Seems to be targetted at Indian IT company employees working at clients site. It's long overdue and I support this wholeheartedly.
