Pinterest vs Bloomberg New Grad Offers Monies: - Pinterest: 149k base, 30k RSU, 60k sign on: $239k first year, $179k recurring - Bloomberg: 155k base, 30k annual bonus, 30k sign on, 10k relo: $225k first year, $185k recurring Location: - Pinterest: Fully Remote but will be going in office in San Francisco - Bloomberg: Hybrid, 3 days a week in office in New York Teams: - Pinterest: Really cool team that sounds like I will be able to make impact - Bloomberg: I don't know yet lol, they have a cool team matching process Tech Stack: - Pinterest: Python backend and some Java as well. React frontend - Bloomberg: varies widely I've heard. Lot of C++, some modern stacks in various teams. Highly team dependent Career Growth: Whatever company I work for, I can see myself trying to get to senior before I jump ship. So career growth is everything. And based on what I hear, Pinterest career growth is very decent (especially considering the team I will be on). Comp growth at Pinterest I hear is incredible also. We all know about Bloomberg career and comp growth 👀 My mindset: I like Pinterest's product a lot even though I don't use it consistently. It provokes creativity, and is generally harmless. Though I find Bloomberg's product impressive, I don't know about the mission of Bloomberg. Making rich people richer isn't of much appeal to me. I also think Pinterest has not reached its potential and I think its on a good path towards doing so (from an outsider's perspective). But Bloomberg's stability is of high interest. Let me know what you all think pls!
BB is recession proof
If you want to focus on career growth I’d go with Pinterest. Better brand & comp will grow much faster. If you want to chill go with Bloomberg.
Better brand 💀
On tier lists people often put Pinterest in Tier 2 where as Bloomberg is often Tier 4. It may not be a better company overall, but it’s much stronger on your resume.
Bloomberg obviously
If you're on visa, Bloomberg definitely. Main risk at Pinterest is that Elliot leads to bad long-term decision making. Plus getting pipped as soon as you join
I'd go with pinterest for the job, but Bloomberg for location. Pinterest for pure tech, Bloomberg for some finance interest. Pinterest for high level applications, Bloomberg for lower level stuffs. Both are great, good job.
Thank you!
Bloomberg also has a lot of infrastructure teams. A large percentage of BB engineers don’t really touch finance stuff, perhaps like 30%. If you’re concerned about that at all, just know there’s flexibility.
C++? Ain’t nobody got time with that. Take the python backend.
I don’t think you can go wrong with either, tbh
If you are a new grad, you will get a lot of benefit from having time in the office. Once you have a few years, you can go for remote without worrying about not developing the BS, in person, bureaucracy-navigation skills. But by all other measures I would say go Pinterest. Each company has more prominence in different circles. There is no wrong answer here. If you know one team and you don't know the other, that may be the deciding factor.
For sure, I already decided that I'll be in office with the team regardless of what company I choose. Not interested in remote work right now.
Can I ask what your timeline was for bloomberg? When did you do the onsite technical and hr+em interviews, and when did you receive the offer?
The process was kind of a mess. I didn't know what round I was in, I didn't even know if I moved on or not until a month after my technical screening lol. It started in November, continued in December, then did the last technical round in January (at this point I didn't even know if where I was in the process), then I had a nice final round that consisted of a behavioral with a recruiter and a "Technical Conversation" with an engineering manager, then received offer a few days later.
Thank you for the info, it helps 🙂. Glad to see they still have some headcount.
