As a VD I nailed all the interviews, everyone wanted me all the time and I always had the choice to go wherever I want. As a UXD I’m not as brilliant and I actually failed some interviews and I know I’ve got a shitton to grow. I made the switch from VD to UXD around 2.5 years ago. I’m constantly wondering if I’m just not cut out for UX and I should go back to VD where I have a clear talent (even people in my team keep convincing me about this, which is kinda painful to hear tbh). Or, should I suck it up and go through this learning stage until I become a solid UXD? Anyone with a similar career path?
A lot of UX is really analytical and not creative like VD. It may be your strengths are on one side of the brain more than the other. I would suggest you find a way to test your raw aptitude around the logical and rational parts of UX to be sure it isn’t a dead end. If you have not already, check out approaches like User Centered Design as they may give you more room to find your sweet spot. Good luck!
Yeah, I feel like ux skills are easier to acquire than visd skills. As if you're either born with the eyes or not.
Quite the same unless you're talking about Illustration, Painting, etc

What happens when most of your team is Indian?
What is the difference between UX and VD?
VD focuses more on the aesthetics and style, layout, typography, illustration, etc.. while UX is all about flows, interactions, edge cases, etc...
