Is "From the River to the Sea" So Wrong?
Someone should ask John Oliver to do a peice on what's happening with the recent H1B changes and what the situation already is. This would at least make the ignorant aware of the current situation. - Unnecessary RFEs because of vague interpretation of law and no changes to clearly define it. - H4 work authorization removal - Unfair because most immigration laws support equal status to spouse. (eg: spouse getting green card, spouse getting citizenship). And in general it just seems fair. - The backlog in green cards and how so many high skilled, contributing, intellectual humans who are not criminals, live in uncertainty affecting many decisions of their lives. Please don't make it about race or country of origin. Race blind react only ;) Edit: Most of the comments here are about how it's a stupid idea. Well for those who don't think that, maybe send an email to management@avalonuk.com his management company.
I don’t think he reads blind, send him a note
Most Americans think H1B are unnecessary so I don’t think that’s a scab you want to pick at.
He did daca
So not the same thing.
Hmm. I think that's what I'm questioning here. A peice that tells their importance in theeconomy. Maybe they are unnecessary for the economy. I don't know.
No immigrants to America have ever been “necessary”. Immigrants come here by choice (even if seeking asylum or refuge). There is always a section of residents that dislike immigrants to varying degrees. German, Italian, and Irish immigrants were despised by residents at different times in the history of our great nation. Particular races and nationalities were banned from becoming naturalized citizens. Get J. Oliver to make your case. Get the ear of every lobbyist, lawyer, DJ, Rapper, athlete, and CEO you can afford to. Get into the hearts and minds of people. Or get into the wallets of lawmakers. Nothing gets done here by quiet, law-abiding, tax-paying sheep. Ours is a nation run by immigrant-hating spawn of immigrants. #MAGA
Hahahah. Completely agree. I am a quiet, law-abiding, tax-paying sheep who is asking other quiet, law-abiding, tax-paying sheep to choose one of the options you've listed above. :P
It would be hard to convince most middle Americans that it’s necessary to give visas to people to work at Amazon, only to destroy the jobs where they work in Ohio, for example, and also a second visa to the H1B spouse who will take another job in Seattle that someone already here could fill.
The point is that the laws should be clearer. Not leave room for vague interpretation. If they don't want H1Bs fine. Cancel the program. But for the next generation of H1Bs. Treat the ones already here legally, because of a previous law like humans at least.
They shouldn’t change the rules after the fact. Don’t disagree. I just don’t think there’s going to be people clamoring to change it. We’re heading for a significant recession and there will only be more pushback.
I agree, an agency should not be able to make arbitrary decisions like this that hurt people. Make Congress do any changes. There needs to be a lawsuit against these agencies. A dreamers lawsuit was able to prevent Trump from canceling the program https://mobile.nytimes.com/2018/04/24/us/daca-dreamers-trump.html
I have never understood one thing, L1 dependents are allowed to work whereas H1 dependents are not. Why? Maybe I’m too dumb to get that.
L1 is lot more abused when compared to H1B. No minimum wages, no need to show that there aren’t us citizens to do the job, no numerical limit, the employee can’t change the company hence perennially underpaid, spouse can work from day 1. But L1 always escapes the limelight and the rhetoric. Classical example of arbitrary and stupid immigration policy of US
Let's not digress here.
John Oliver won’t cover this. 1. It’s not scandalous enough. 2. H1B is enormously unpopular and American viewers would be thrilled if it went away. 3. It’s about the unfortunate inconveniences of guest workers who are here getting paid a phenomenal amount of money compared to the average US worker. Viewers aren’t going to give two shits.
I can't say about 1 & 2 since there is no data around it. 3 - don't be ashamed of getting paid good. Hopefully you have earned it.
Taco Tuesday gets it.
I’m far from a conservative but putting labels like this on people just tarnishes your whole argument.
You're right. It was unnecessary. I can remove it.
Liberals don’t give a fuck about high skilled jobs filled by foreigners. If they do give a fuck, it’s because “marginalized,” “diverse” Americans aren’t filling them. In that respect, your pain is their potential gain. John Oliver’s audience are liberals. Sorry. Oh, and conservatives don’t give a fuck about you either so don’t bother calling Alex Jones.
So true. This scenario is exactly where john Oliver can help. Help in making people giving some fucks about the high skilled labor. Put a human face in front of the issue.
Great idea
