Tech Career Advice

I have 9 YOE in Mobile Development. Doing it for this long made it extremely boring for me and I hated all the discussions where developers nit picking on small details and playing dirty politics to win petty arguments while maintaining an old stack. The only time I learned something new was when Google came out with something. So I made a move and moved into web Front end and Big Data and now while I'm learning some great things about the new tech stack and happy about it, I am a bit confused as well. Its interesting but a big domain to catch up to and it seems too late to jump into this ship. Any advice on what should I do next? Should I move back into Mobile and just cover other domains/tech stacks(seems like my only choice but still)? Also, do tech companies take it as a +ve step to move their resources in different domains and spend some time to find what their interests are? TC: 117k (Low balled)

I am very early in my career and I honestly do not understand why it would be too late. It would be the same for you and for people who just started their career in these field. It would be a good thing to jump ship if you feel you can’t learn anything from your current field and if these new fields are apparently growing and looks promising. TC is another story though, I don’t have experience on how switching field affect your TC, probably depends on what companies value in such case. I am actually also interested to know: as a developers, what should we set expectation for ourselves on for each career stage. Would like to see more insights from senior developers.

Salary wise I know for sure I'm being low balled and it's pretty bad. Any fintech company would low ball for no reason and will spit out the same shit story. Hence a tech company would be better but how jumping ships works out in tech is what will make it more clear.

“I know everything in a specific domain. I am lowballed. I tried something new, but couldn’t do it” Anybody with common sense will figure out.

You seem pissed because I didn't tagged Amazon? Mountain of -ve perception over a question. Flagged

No, he's calling you out. No one knows everything. You may do well in some regards but there is always more to learn. If you were a domain SME then your TC shouldn't be so low, esp with your YoE. Our TC is very similar except I'm a 502. Time for you to jump around and bump that up instead of think JPMC is going to reward you with more TC for work you ALREADY do. Also, if you can't figure out a new domain then that may be an underlying reason as to why you are in a rut. GL

It is not too late to start something new. Before that ask yourself which one you would love more, connect it to your longer term plan. If your new area helps you connect with your bigger picture take risk and learn

I thought over it. Sticking to my previous role would have been better as I am still good in it. Just don't know if I'm ever going to grow in that field?

Why do you think it’s too late? I’m not sure being early to something is inherently better
