I’ve been in engineering but curious about what kind of TC (after commission) people are making at the top tech companies, or tech companies with great software everyone wants. I imagine it blows SWE out of the water but I have no idea. Can anyone shed some light? #sales #techsales #commission TC: .24M YOE: 1
Poor performing sales rep: $130k-$180k Average sales rep- $250k-$300k Top performing sales rep(at a top tech company): $500k-$1M+ Luck is a big factor, put the best salesperson in the worst territory and they’ll likely be a poor performing sales rep. It is incredibly hard to have linear TC growth. Some years you’ll make much more than others
Wowwa weewa 1m? That's crazy. What percentage is commission based?
Most of that would be commission. Base pay is only around $100-160k for the most part
Principal AM and sales managers at AWS can make roughly 400-800k.
Help me understand. At aws are AM farmers or hunters? Is a sales manager a IC or people manager? There are SO many different titles in the sales org
Am = sales rep, IC role Sales manager. = manager of sales reps. AM could be on an account that involves hunting or farmer. Depends on account/territory
Compgauge shows multiple Salesforce and Snowflake reps above $1m
Compgauge.com and repvue.com has info
Software-only companies you can get to a $1M W-2, at or just above 200% of plan. (Salesforce, VMware, Snowflake, ServiceNow, Zscaler) If there’s hardware involved (Cisco, Palo, Fortinet, HP) forget about it. Those sales people are realizing that now. I did 250% at two of those and barely hit $500k.
You can get crazy deal bonuses on top of straight commission. I can totally see how people hit $>500k or higher
Just make sure you really talk to ppl about quota and if it's consistently attainable. Their goal is for you to be at 80%-120% of quota. Ppl who crush more than that are exceptions. Unfortunately.
