Hi guys, i am a new grad with a Master in CS. I currently have 2 offers from Tesla in Fremont CA and Microsoft in Redmond WA, but I dont know which to choose in term of location, career growth and compensation. 1. Tesla: Fremont, 110k base, no signin bonus, 60k stock/ 4 years 2. Microsoft: Redmond, 117k base, 20k signin bonus, 75k stock/5 years I currently live in Bay Area, already has a house in Bay Area and my wife is working here as well, but Seattle seems provide more relax life. Please advise
No, 15k per year, 60k for 4 years
do you know what you will be doing
Backend Software Engineer at Tesla and Software Engineer for Dynamics 365 team at Microsoft
you should pick the job which you learn ghe most
Congrats on the offers. I would say negotiate with Tesla to match Microsoft offer and choose Tesla. How do you have a house at Bay Area at such a young age?
Thanks for the info. Ppl seems to advise me to choose Microsoft because of its brand name and stability. Might u let me know the reason for Tesla ? Oh. I got some money from parents from both sides and my wife has been working for a few years. Just a small one, nothing special
Go to Tesla while you still can. You can come to Microsoft in a year or two when they bite the dust. đ
I replied to your other post, but Iâll say it here: with Tesla, negotiate that RSU grant up. Youâre getting lowballed there and you should aim for $100k.
Come to Tesla for sure, itâs unstable but has much more potential. You can join Microsoft anytime you want. Itâs the beginning of your career, aim for the big!
Thanks for your information. Could you please share about the work environment? I heard that ppl work 10-12 hours per day and every 6 months, who do not perform well might be in danger. May be it is not correct, but still want to know more. Thanks again
Msft. Tesla has a terrible culture and abuses their employees. You might even get laid off a few weeks before your stocks vest!
Oh really. Thanks for your information. Did you know which location this happened ?
Donât forget to consider the role itself. One role might align more with your long term goals (i.e. working in a particular industry, working with specific technology, difference in career tracks, etc.).
