Currently seeking advice for what internship offer to take. I have swe intern offers from Tesla and Bloomberg. The Tesla offer is for a frontend team, (i don’t see myself doing frontend in the future) but i’ve already signed. Idk which Bloomberg team for sure yet. My goal is to eventually work at an HFT firm. (citadel, jane st, hrt, jump, etc) Should I: 1. Take the Tesla offer (Cancel Bloomberg) 2. Take the Bloomberg offer (Renege Tesla and burn bridges) 3. Other (comment) If you have any advice, pls let me know! I guess the question i’m asking is “Would taking the Bloomberg offer significantly increase my chances to join an HFT firm?” Any help is appreciated, tysm
What are both of them offering??
doesn’t rly matter. the bloomberg offer is 30% higher but these are internships. i only care about future prospects tbh
Bloomberg is probably better
thank you! any particular reason why
Bloomberg is aligned with your long term goals. Should be a no-brainer. Also, from what I heard, Tesla is a shitty place to work.
thanks! appreciate the help
Tesla doesn’t pay too well from what I’ve heard Bloomberg is all cash no stock Edit: missed the HFT part. Yeah Bloomberg is a no brainer then
thank you for the help
Bloomberg internship in much better. it’s hard to get one and Interns get to select from options of project to work on. Great opportunity to start your career in the field of your choice.
thank you!
thanks for the input :))
Any particular reason why you’re interested in HFT? For engineering, few HFT shops offer a better combination of comp and wlb than the top tech firms.
Lol this is just not true
Few being Jane, jump, hrt. Worse wlb balance being citadel, DRW, akuna. If this person can get into one of the above they can get into a cushy job at meta and cruise
bbg
thx
Have 2 friends from Bloomberg internship that are joining Jump next year. If you pick a C++-heavy team, it gives you a great springboard into the HFT world, especially if you already worked on problems related to those firms (Trading Systems, Exchange Data etc). I've myself experienced that having Bloomberg + one of the top CS schools is enough to get interviews at most places
Thank you! This was helpful
If any of you have context/reasons for why one might be better than the other, pls let me know!
