I see a lot of comments in posts where folks from Waymo Cruise etc say Tesla is lagging the most in terms of autonomous driving capability. Is it true? If yes, can you elaborate more? In which subset of tech features is Tesla lagging and where is Tesla leading?

My Ford Focus 2007 is much better than Tesla in self driving. I'm glad nobody except me can test it ;)
Wait for Mach-E...
Elaborate?
As a non expert in this field, my take is that Telsa has the high risk but high reward method by trying to use ML and big data to solve autonomy. Everybody else is relying on high resolution premapped data and Lidar for precise localization. This is a lower risk method, but IMO is ultimately non-scalable and will always be at a cost disadvantage in terms of HW.
Pretty much this. Many of Tesla's competitors (including my own place of employment) intend to leverage business models that don't require the scalability that Tesla's business model does require. You can make a more expensive, lidar-based setup work economically if you're operating a smaller fleet of high-utilization, autonomy-focused vehicles in geofenced environments. Tesla's approach to autonomy is one of necessity for as long as they continue to pursue a model of individual ownership. It will be a challenge, and might take quite a long time to solve, but if they succeed it will pay off.
Fair points! I wasn't considering the geofenced high utilization business model, however I do think that is a just a transitory phase. If Tesla can make their approach work, it will obselete LIDAR based systems.
Lel, looks like Panasonic is a product manager or market researcher or something similar where one has to prepare a PowerPoint deck for some execs and is looking for conclusion points for his/her deck 😂 🍿
Naah just curious. I am an investor and want to know the stocks I own. Not a fanboy
Advice panasonic - book you profits and exit. Dont go on what teslaratti and other bloggers and paid critics are publishing. Tesla has more chances of slashing to half than doubling. Everybody is highlighting 'greater than expected deliveries' but the truth is that they made 10% less deliveries in q2, and that too 'world' amd not USA. The truth is they lost 37% sales in california - their major market in USA. China saved them, and musk used the opportunity.
Tesla's current sensor suite cannot achieve L4 AV driving. Claim to L4 capability with same vehicle HW makes me question other announcements by Mr. Musk
Okay mr legacy automaker, tell me how radar and cameras(what we as humans use to make driving decisions)is not enough for l4
None of Tesla's camera is remotely comparable in robustness to your eyes. Tesla or anyone's onboard circuits are not remotely comparable to your brain and will stay so in at least 10 years.
Tesla very close to Level-5 autonomous driving technology, Musk says July 8, 2020, 9:28 pm
With current sensor suite? BS!!
He is a liar..
😅
Musk is a fraud and a cheat. I like his product but do not trust an iota of shit coming from his lying mouth.
He’s not a fraud, he’s overly optimist. A fraud doesn’t create the world’s most valuable car company from nothing or send US astronauts to space.
Being a fake person and being smart is unrelated. He is smart, but also fakes a lot.
GM, Cruise and Zoom, crying on blind won't help your stocks grow.
How about Ford and I join you guys and help in building a safer future the way its supposed to be done
Tesla is significantly ahead and will be for quite some time, with a neural net of 1 million vehicles
Yea right, Tesla always gets it right, rest of the companies are idiots betting on Lidar 😒 🤦♂️!! I hope you don't belong to ADAS/AD at lucid, if so, it must be disappointing to work on Lidar 😋. I'd say they're significantly ahead on Level 2 and ~3. But thats not truly self driving, its still assisted driving 🤷♂️
If you think this then you don’t understand self driving cars at all.
