Your experience is largely shaped by your immediate peers and can turn sour any time and even your responsibilities change over time and can turn worse. If you started at what you thought was a dream job, chances are it won't stay at what it was for a long time. Even you might want your career to go in a different direction and change things for TC or to work in a different field. What's your dream job now?"
When reality hits, we are all modern slaves who think otherwise
Slavery is when I have a top 3% household income and can quit my job whenever I want
If capitalism is slavery, then I don't really know an alternative solution. All forms of society revolve around contributing in some way to be rewarded with basic necessities and some level of luxury. All forms have varying degrees of corruption.
What about join company but don’t drink koolaide? Do people drink the koolaid?
Yes, especially the younger ones.
What did a certain short say about this again? Something like "My dear, I don't dream of labor."
Dream jobs exist, but most people will never have one. Same with romantic partners/spouses - we do the best we can, settle with what we get, and make the most out of our situations. Then we die. Lovely stuff.

Society needs to change, none of this is sustainable. However, it is pretty clear most in society who are younger have checked out and aren’t buying the BS. Proof is in the numbers. Go check out the birth rates 20 years ago in the USA and see what they are now. That is not the birthrate of a healthy and functioning society. Then check out suicide rates and drug overdoses. Society can’t continue to function like this. Even if people ignore it, it will simply collapse because no one has kids now. You literally can’t sustain this system long term if things continue the way they are going.
I have always accepted it but it hits differently with all things going at Cruise
I’m so glad I turned down Google, it seemed like a cult. At most other companies people realize it’s just a job and not their entire identity.
Yep… feels like a cult alright 😂
My sense is that’s mostly true of those Googlers who have worked their entire career at Google and have no perspective. I worked 20+ years outside of Google first and for me it’s an 80% dream job, the remaining 20% is frustration at the slow pace and endless documents and security/privacy reviews.
Dream jobs can exist. One company can honestly be the dream destination for someone for one legitimate reason or another. You just can't ever forget that a company is and will always be a company. You can have a realistic dream.
This is all obvious stuff. There are no dream companies, but sometimes things work pretty well, just ride the waves as long as you can and keep your spending in check. Some companies are better than others at various times for various reasons. But don't assume anything will last and enjoy the ride while you can.
