I have been a SWE for 4 years and have been laid off back to back since 2023. It’s not performance based; simply company reorganization and terrible luck. It’s been breaking me financially having these 2-3 month gaps without a job and now I’m drowning financially. It’s really discouraging and has made me so jaded as a person… and I’m only 27. I just want to live a normal life and grow financially. Not be constantly worried like this whenever I get hired. I have a couple months to bounce back before my emergency funds are depleted, but I don’t even want to. I want to sell my house and go back to my parents house. Society can judge all they want; I’m honestly over it. Honestly The stress is too much. Any advice? No kids, no wife. TC: $180k #engineering #software #layoffs
True stress is too much. If I help you to land a job within 1 month. Will you give me 1 month salary after getting job? I have some internal connects.
You should probably fck off
Wtf! Don’t be a shit human who take advantage of someone’s bad situation
Government work. Stop chasing TC
Where can you find this and do you need a security clearance for all of the jobs?
You can start by looking at contractors. I actually just landed with Leidos after my stint with Capital One. The pay is only a little bit less but the pressure and amount of work is FAR LESS. So companies like Leido, Booz Allen, GDIT, Raytheon. You don’t need a clearance, some places will support your getting a clearance. And once you have the clearance you are kind of forever-employable Oh and before I was with Cap1, I worked for DoD. That’s another route to go but the number of SWE jobs is kind of low within the USG. Still, check out Usajobs.com and search for IT Specialist(Appsw)
Are they offering 5 months salary every time ?, sounds like a good game for sometime
One month
no kids no wife and you have a house. this is your problem. you should’ve been in some small studio so you can save money so when times like this comes you can chill without a job a year or two
Backpedaling has been an option, I signed when I was engaged, had to leave her after saw some things on her phone
What did you see on her phone?
JPMC reorg? What unit? I don't think this is typical, you just had bad luck. Enjoy the time off and the excitement of uncertainty. Working sucks.
Why don't you rent out your place instead of selling and move in with your parents and take a break for a while?
agreed^^ Rent it and collect passive income while you find a new job.
Collecting passive income doesnt really…profit to revenue since you are paying off your mortgage unless the rent to mortage gap is really big
There are stable jobs but they will pay comparatively less. For example, Microchip pays decent but no mass layoffs. Take this time to reset. Basically relqx a bit. Take some drives to visit some places or friends. Dont lament your bad luck. You wont get a work break of months like this again for next 20-30 years in life. So take it in a positive way while it lasts.
I run a daily mailing list that emails the latest remote engineering roles found that day (nothing outdated or older than 24 hrs)… not sure if that interests you but DM me if you want to join the list
Yes please, I’ll DM
I have DM’ed you as well.
Are you in Jersey City by any chance? I have an offer there that is stalled, wondering if you have any insight on what's happening at JPMC. I am also unemployed but am kind of enjoying it.
They just did a wave of layoffs this week.

Europeans are poor.
