Data scientist, interested in transitioning for career growth (technical and non-technical). Coming from Deloitte. All same location. AWS Proserve: TC 260k, L5, data scientist focused on computer vision. MBB (McKinsey Bain BCG) consulting firm: TC 210k, post MBA level, data scientist with same comp and progression as generalists. Split between product and client services. C3 AI: TC 220k data scientist focused on machine learning. Split between product and client services. Which one to pick and why?
Client services suck tbh
All of the data scientists that have joined C3 in the past months are wicked intelligent so you’ll get exposure to some of the newest & best in industry ML techniques, and the split between DS/MLE is a bit more fuzzy so you’ll pick up a bit of big data infrastructure skills on the job (could be a pro or con depending on how you look at it). Client facing eng & DS also get to be involved in framing the solutions in the context of the business problem, so you’ll pick up those non-technical skills and synthesize them with the technical. And lastly, C3 stock is getting wrekt right now so there’s a large upside potential on any new comp packages that are given through the next XX amount of time or so
So C3 or AWS in your judgment? And does it make a difference if we are disregarding TC?
Comparing the two feels a bit like apples to oranges, but what I know about working at C3 is that your work and projects will have a direct and visible impact on the company (which can’t always be said about larger tech giants), and we’re always working on the bleeding edge of AI/ML solution spaces and business problems. As far as WLB, there are occasionally days where we work till 10pm, but the majority of the time it’s a 40-50 hour work week. The biggest difference is that C3 is zero WFH so you’ll have to come into office every actual work day with no exceptions.
Op, grats on the offers. Mind to share your yoe?
Congratulations on multiple offers. could you please provide the break down of your C3 offer? Yoe? Location?
I'm biased to C3 since I work here, but work load is reasonable and the problems get switched up all the time. So if something gets aggravating or boring it usually is over within a few weeks. I've seen about a dozen different use cases in under two years, which IMO is way more fun than specializing and has made interviewing at other companies a breeze in the talking portions But nobody has convinced me to leave yet If you want to do strictly computer vision, then take that role. If you want breadth and variety, C3.
Don't go to MBB on a DS position
Reason?
2nd class citizen and no signficant career trajectory
