As an H1B holder, i have run into hundreds of issues not because of other immigrants but because of the incompetence and arrogance of immigration related government insitutions. It has only gotten worse after Trump got elected, much worse (so bad!) and yet I can find people on similar visas who would believe that Trump is good for “legal” immigration. I think he is only pushing forward false promises and baseless rhetoric to divide immgrants and turn them against each other. Trump is bad for everything because he is an idiot. “Legal” immigratiom included. This guy nails the issue and addresses why “legal” immigration is such a big pain and that is what makes people come up with all sorts of workarounds and loopholes. https://youtu.be/tXqnRMU1fTs
Perfectly honest, if I was a young person in India I would get into construction and not worry about tech or H1 or whatever.
No. Trump is not good for Legal immigration. He is infact not good for "people of color" immigration. Not a lot of people know this, but before Trump I knew a lot of Indians who were republican leaning. They do not like illegal immigration and usually like sticking to rules. Trump has just made it worse. A lot of people I know (Indians) are now dem leaning because he has made life difficult for honest, legal and talented immigrants.
7% cap per country existed long before Trump. India as source of good engineers showed up in 2000's, hence the backlog. Infosys and similar did a number on abusing the system. How is all this squarely Trump's fault?
No. I am not talking about the cap. Infact he is talking about removing the cap which might not be a good idea. I mean, it is advantageous for me, but you really need homogeneous immigration and I don't mind standing in a long queue to keep that. The one I am talking about is removing H4 EAD. Unnecessarily generating fear by increasing the number of RFEs. The general psychology among his voters to not favour immigrants (even the legal ones like me). I work at a company (start up) where they really tried hiring American first but just couldn't find good candidates. The minute they started hiring immigrants positions started to fill up. So immigrants are not really taking up American jobs, but he doesn't say that. In addition to that, the extreme racism and sexism in the way he talks irritates us. We DO NOT want to be associated to something like that. In short, a lot of Chinese and Indian immigrants were republican leaning, but they are not anymore.
John Oliver lost all credibility in 2016. You lost all credibility because you called Trump an idiot (just for the fact that you showed your personal feelings towards this).
why are you so afraid of feelings? and John Oliver never lost credibility
Anecdotal evidence to prove points and slanted (biased) view in one direction. Anyone who is blindly anti-Trump can't have a reasonable discussion.
