Transition to AE with Pending Recession?

Considering a move from a renewals position to an AE position, but am concerned about the pending recession. Currently targeting larger tech companies for new role (MSFT, Salesforce, Okta, Atlassian, and others). Concerned about making the career shift when it likely will soon be tough to generate net-new revenue and considering staying in renewals while waiting out the pending recession. Thoughts? #sales
