I have a friend who used to work with me at a previous company. He currently holds the position of VP in the finance industry. I'm curious about the process for him to transition to a FAANG company. Would he need to engage a headhunter for the application process? Also, considering his experience managing over 200 people, what level should he aim for at FAANG? TC 195K
In finance industry everyone above Janitor is a VP. In fact, Janitor’s manager is likely a VP For faangs - there is heavy bias towards networking, you need people to know you. I would say his best bet is join a growing startup and build up Finance part from scratch
Are you saying networking is needed prior to entering or inside? I know inside is a thing, but saw multiple people hired for L7 position not via networking.
L5
No way vp at bank manages 200ppl. Vp at bank is like senior at tech.
Who said it was a bank? I said finance industry, it is actually fintech. He is the head of digital and oversees a total of 200 folks.
Lol then say fintech. Why say finance industry. When someone says finance industry, ppl normally think of banks.
Titles don't translate but they can make sure their resume and LinkedIn are clear about scope. 200 engineers could be Senior Manager or maybe Director depending on product area. Finance running a payment processing group at Chase moving to the payment group at Apple is easier than going from running internal legacy apps to public services at GCP.
VP or SVP doesn’t mean much, team of 200 tells me more. I’ve hired VPs from banking into Google at L5, some at L6.
Are you still in Google? Can you describe the process a bit more or share POCs?
