400/2200 laid off. To be honest, I’m not even sure what they were doing. Ads are still manually set up, and there’s little to no ad targeting. Absurd. Not even sure what daily tasks would look like besides process manual ad requests. Surely automatic ads would’ve been done by now (12 years). Salaries all sort of piggybacking off Amazon money / streamer donations? Seems like a culture layoff and they’ll likely be hiring next year. Discord next?
Aren’t most of the laid off staff from HR, recruiting and Moderation? I’ve heard that very few engineers actually lost their jobs.
It's still ongoing. I can confirm that there's a lot of people from all different areas. Think most of recruitment was already let go in the layoffs at the start of the year. People had a short amount of time in slack to say goodbye, so you could see who was getting let go and their jobs. Definitely impacted engineering, because I can see the titles of the people being let go. Whether it disproportionately impacted ones area over another, it's hard to say.
@BNDD00 what other teams were laid off?
What do you mean by culture layoff?
From what I could tell, it was across the board.
Was engineering impacted?
Yes
Plenty of engineering and operations laid off. OP has bad info
