UX design in google and Apple. Principals.
How big is the scope of work for principal level designers in google and Apple (Seattle). I’m at Microsoft and the area of responsibilities used to be pretty big in my org even for seniors, but things are changing, reorgs are happening and the scope now isn’t big enough for my level, so I wonder what it is there outside.
It’s all over the place at Amazon. There are L6 (senior) designers with loads of experience and who’ve done brilliant work and handle design and much customer experience for 200+ person orgs, and L7 (Principal) designers who do...I’m not sure what. Then again, there are a couple brilliant Principal designers handling tons of stuff in extremely complex parts of the business. It’s tough to get into Amazon as L7, and even L6 sometimes. And among directors? Totally mixed bag. The AWS director is outstanding.
