I ordered some pizza today from Uber Eats. What I usually do is, I will put $1 for the tip, and then update it later to $3-$4 once the delivery arrives depending on the delivery and stuff. Today, the uber eats driver rang my door bell, and when giving me the food said “what do you expect me to do with $1?” Or “what can I do with $1” or something like that. He seemed somewhat upset about it, I explained that I tip afterwards. He then said the updated tip doesn’t go to him. I said why would Uber add an updated tip button that doesn’t work. After getting the order, I was kind of mad bc I felt like this guy was lying to me about the tipping thing. I am sure that the tips 100% go to Uber eats drivers. I would’ve gave the tip anyway probably, or had the intention to. I tipped $2.50. Can anyone from Uber or related confirm that the updated tip goes to the driver?
Use DoorDash instead and just request a refund if anything goes wrong
Does DoorDash hide tips?
DoorDash tips upfront and is visible up to a certain amount. Unless you’re tipping a huge amount, there is no issue. Usually, my issues are regarding the restaurant rather than the driver. I have a chase card so I get free DoorDash subscription which reduces prices as well.
They usually do go to the driver. But Uber does have the right to keep the tip if the order is even one minute late past the estimated time, but usually you can call them and explain that the restaurant was taking forever but the hold time is absurd . -I used to work uber eats for 3 years
The Uber Eats app didn’t show the tracking of the delivery person lol, I had to call to check if the order was on the way. It then asked if it arrived in the expected time range after I confirmed the order arrived, which it did so I said yea. So in this case he would probably keep the tip
This is not true (maybe there was a loophole before but can confirm now its not). Uber does not keep the courier tip in any circumstance. The only situation in which a driver would get the tip removed is if we refunded the tip to the Eater
He’s lying, but what you did is also messed up
What did I do that’s messed up? I still tipped him after he literally tried to lie to me.
The $1 thing is dumb. It upsets them for no reason. That’s a good way to get spit in your food
Uber already adds $2 as driver fees as per CA prop 22. You don't need to tip again
That isn’t enough
How much %age do you tip ?
No one forced that driver to pick up that order with the $1 tip. I wouldn’t have added anything given his rude and aggressive behavior
Fr I just wanted my 2 for 1 medium pizzas :/
Or decrease his tip
I usually tip $10+ per order. I can see a driver getting mad over a $1 tip, maybe they were just having a rough day. $4 is very low for a tip in my opinion, but maybe that’s just me.
I never tip, no one got mad at me
They just get even
If you can update the tip, why not put an actual amount and then update down if service was not satisfactory?
You can't update down, you can only add extra
That is an undesirable feature
low tip or not that guy has no right to go at you like that
Of course he does
He doesn't
100% of tip goes to driver
He’s lying. Tips will 100% go to the driver lol, updated or not. A higher initial tip will l increase the projected earning of the delivery, so they probably want to encourage you to do that.
Right, yea tips do go to the driver and that’s what I read online too. I wouldn’t have cared as much if he said what you mentioned about the projected earning of the delivery.
