Tipping is coming to Uber. What is your opinion on it?
It's about time
Well do you do uber on the side?
No I just would like to tip my drivers when I feel like the fare is too low or if I ask them to go to the drive thru or something
I really love the response to this. On an article about Lyft showing off their tip numbers everyone says "I use Lyft because they allow me to tip and Uber doesn't" and when Uber rolls out tipping everyone says "I hate this I wish they didn't". It's like only the extremes like to comment. Nobody is being guilted into tipping and personally I wasn't tipping before and I'm not going to be tipping now.
This is America, the mere existence of a tipping option guilts and shames people into tipping and perpetuates this atrocity.
No, the driver won't even know if you tipped.
I love it because the drivers that make next to nothing will now make at least a little more. But I hate it because it perpetuates this horrible tipping culture where pretty people get unfairly compensated more.
I don't like Uber because of their shitty company ethics. Tipping won't convince me to reinstall.
We don't believe you
How does company ethics influence you to not use a product? Frankly, I use whichever is cheap. Who gives a fuck about what goes on with the company.
Tipping culture is terrible. It dilutes the responsibility for compensation, making it easier for employers (although I know Uber insists they're not employees) to avoid raising wages. In practice I suspect this will be a net driver hostile move in the long run.
This seems right to me. Basically wages for drivers will trend towards the minimum required to cover the cost of providing the auto, plus whatever difference there is with minimum wage. There's too much supply of labor to not end up there. This move just means uber can shift part of the total wage to the customer.
Just curious. Do you use Lyft or Uber currently?
None of you gets it. Tipping is about hope, like buying a lottery ticket. Uber drivers won't get much tips from low life IT people, yes, you and me but one day, they may get a big tip, like $200, which makes a legend.
If they get a $200 tip, you should be investigating if the driver is running a secondary business in the car...
I am never gonna tip. Uber drivers please ask Uber for more money
very disappointed with this decision
Who cares?
everyone who was proud being part of a company working to change shitty american culture
fuck this country and its fucking tipping customs. hidden fees everywhere. so very disappointed Uber caved on this.
Hate it. Never gonna tip. Sorry drivers, ask for more money from your goddamn employer.
You're the worst kind of person
@holymoly - Here, let me give you my venmo so that you can send me a tip every time you buy a PC with an Intel CPU.
