So average L6 in US pulls ~$800k while in EU, specifically Netherlands they barely go above ~$300k. US companies hiring at these levels in EU of course have this sort of pay difference but Uber's case the gap is big. Is that really the cap for that level?
L6 is more like 600k Uber US
800 sounds crazy high. Is it due to unexpectedly high stock prices at the moment? You have to compare new hire offer to new hire offer. Not current-employee NYC TC to new hire in EU TC. I transferred from the Bay Area to EU 7 years ago, so I can confirm that ~60% of US comp is probably correct but I highly doubt 37% is correct (for FAANG).
Moved from Seattle to London and post tax salary is about 50% of Seattle post tax salary
Interesting… is that also Amazon? How would you describe the overall satisfaction of life on these two cities working at Amazon?
Yeah, at Amazon but I’ve hear of a similar delta at Meta too. Cost of living is largely similar, London probably a little cheaper after the recent crazy inflation in the US. It’s a very different lifestyle though so depends on what you want to optimize for. If the goal is optimizing for career and money, then US is a no brainer. Outside of money, I like life in London much better, closer to India (where I’m from), no visa issues, much safer, walking friendly, travel to EU, better wlb if you can find a team that doesn’t work with the US etc
No equity. Pocket change in form of ‘Uber credits’. Would need to work part time as an Uber driver to cover expenses.
Nobody is getting an offer for 800k as L6. If you got an offer today, it’d be 500-600k. The only way an L6 is getting 800k is if the stock appreciates, or the equity cliff is set up so they peak at that before dropping down to reality.
Uber L6 maps differently to other companies similar level. Uber L6 does start at 800k in HCOL in last few years.
By the way all current L6s including me are making north of $1.2M due to stock appreciation. However, given the market external offers will not be more than 800K I think.
It depends where in EU where in US In New York cost of living is triple than Amsterdam or Münich so it makes sense Otherwise everyone will grab the job in Pune where with 800K$ you are practically a Billionaire
