I have a pretty low passenger score and I was trying to figure out why. Apparently drivers give low scores to people who don't tip. Drivers also have to rate passengers as soon as they get out of the car. I always tip using the app after, but at that point the driver has already rated me. I actually think I'm just gonna stop tipping now. Well done uber drivers, ya played yo self. Gonna use lyft since it seems to have a little special badge for good tippers.
Since most rideshare drivers aren’t “professional” drivers, don’t treat them that way. I think that’s a lot of the low scores - people hopping in and blatantly ignoring their drives as second class citizens. Don’t know if that’s what you do, but seen it. Ridesharing part timers this is more of a friend picking you up at the airport scenario. Be friendly, say hi, whatever. Don’t need to talk their ear off but make them realize you’re human. Obviously your mileage may vary, and the full timers probably have much different outlooks.
Yeah, that's what get me. I always say hi and talk to them. My parents were taxi drivers so I know what life can be like. I never request a ride until I'm ready for pickup, so really not sure what it is. Maybe they just hate where my house is.
I don't usually tip and have a near perfect rating (good for me, I know), but it's not tipping. There are other factors that may (habitually late) or may not be under your control (bad pickup location).
how did you see the rating as a passenger?
In aggregate you can see it at the top of the side menu in the Uber app beneath your name. For individual trips you cannot, and because the driver can go back give a ratings well after a trip ends (contrary to what OP says) it is hard to pinpoint which driver gave a "bad" rating. Moreover, tips are usually given well after the trip ends not while on trip and generally not before the driver rates you. Be polite, be hygienic, and know where you are going, strike up a conversation or two and you are doing better than 90 percent of people.
I don't really, but apparently having a lower rating means some drivers will just reject you. After reading a few comments from drivers online, I'm much less sympathetic to their lack of benefits. If they can chose to not pick up riders, they clearly have enough money.
