Folks, If you employer has unlimited PTO policy, how many weeks of vacation have you been able to actually take? My current employer gives 4w vacation per year (by offer). I have a feeling my next employer will have this policy and I don’t like it. You know, it’s all in favor of the company.
We are encouraged to take 2wks a quarter. I've pretty much followed that for the past 3 yrs.
Wow! That’s about 2 months per year.
Can confirm. I took about 10 weeks last year
6 wks min if not, unlimited not worth it. Given you don't get to cash out when you leave.
Exactly! If i walk out tomorrow, i cash out my PTO. but how does your manager let you be out for 6 weeks? Don’t you have pending projects?
why wouldn't the time off just be baked into the schedule for pending projects? if you're always operating in emergency mode it will seem like there is never time for a break. good management will open opportunities to not feel trapped by the schedule. get ahead of the problems and allow flexibility within your team.
I’ve probably take about eight weeks. But the longest consecutive was about two weeks.
A week
Whaaat? That’s way too little
I left.
4 weeks is decent.
2-3 weeks per year
You're right.Unlimited is code for "work it out with your manager". This could sometimes be worst then being given 2 or 3 weeks as a standard.
5 to 6 weeks vacation every year.
We have unlimited and it generally translates as 4 wks. And you need to make sure your team has coverage while you're snorting coke at home.
Your feeling is correct. It is highly team dependent and it is tracked (regardless of how much they might say it isn't tracked). Some teams 5-6 weeks. Others, 2 weeks. Depends on your performance as well.
