I am in visa sg and got an option to move to visa US though it’s an internal transfer so not sure new salary and what happen to my promo which I am waiting for past sometime. Now I got an offer from meta London(same as of current level as per levels.fyi) I know both option are good, but I like to what pts I should consider before making any move. My thinking is if I move to visa us, and take a promo now or within 1 yr I can then after H1B move to faang US I can also ask for better level. But if I move to meta then I can fight for promo in 2 yrs, so overall it will take same time by both route. Also saving wise i see visa US and meta London should be same. Blind tax Current visa Sg : 150 kSGD Visa US: 150-200 USD (not sure as it’s internal) Fb London: 160 GBP
If the offer from VISA is not too bad them it's better to go to the US. London only makes sense if you have private reasons why to be there or would like to enjoy the city. Then you can join Meta in the US and get a much better stock grant.
Saving wise I believe both offer should be same, though I don’t know visa US exact offer as it’s internal transfer. And I have to be in visa US until I got H1B, which will be roughly ~2yr.
Also keep in mind H1B is lucky draw. If you don't have masters from US, the chances are even less. If you are lucky you might get next year else you might wait many years.
London TC ?
How well does visa support to change from L1 to H1? And, getting a H1-B picked in the lottery is pure luck and fate. Do you want risk that and move to US? Meta can also move you to US if they need you in US. Good luck!
Meta can move you to US after some time and it should not be difficult to achieve but you would keep your British RSU grant which is much lower than the US one, so you have to be aware of that.
London tc breakup?
I lived 10 years of my life in US, then back to India. Trust me if you are born in India, it would take decades to get PR in US. Also, if you go on L1 you would be stuck with that employer. Better go to UK. The salary is good l, it's near India and you know there is clear path to permanently lice there, if quality of life is also a concern. Not to mention the vibrant Indian community in London.
How does the Indian community in US compare to London's? Comparison with Bay area's would be great if you are aware.
Yes I am aware. London gave me more vibe of India than bay area. I have visited London for 2 weeks and had done internship in bay area. Also, indian community is an additional brownie point not a decision maker. I felt H1 had put shackles around me,L1 is even worst.
If you are a singaporean, you get a different flavor of H1 the H1B1 - No cap, no lottery. Keep that in mind. If not singaporean, forget what I said.
What visa are you going to move to US on - this play a major role. If you move on L category you will not be able to change jobs until you get your GC/I-140
If no family I'd go to London, more fun things to do there. Otherwise US.
You just spend your evenings having calls with your American colleagues;)
But even from US, I might spend my evening having calls with asia counterparts no ?
Why do you want to leave Singapore?
Singapore is very small, and too restrictive. In a way it’s very safe and well thought country but nothing much to explore or grow.
