Wait for shot a Spotify internship or take smaller internship

Hey blind, Preference first, I am a college student slated to graduate Winter 2022, don’t go to a target school at all, but landed a data analytics internship this past summer at Goldman, didn’t return because wanted to work at a company that I actually liked. Since then I have received and accepted a spring internship at Southwest which is a company that was on my list, but have still been interviewing for summer internships as well. Spotify has been my dream company since I got into data, I love the recommendation systems, wrapped, and everything in between, I got auto reject last year, but hopping with a internship at a bigger company now on my resume I can make it past the resume screen as I have also been getting way more interviews this application process. That being said Spotify’s internship application timeline is harsh, apps open next week, but won’t be evaluated till December/ January, interviews start following that, so if I don’t make it past screening I won’t know until beginning of next year most likely. That being said I’ve gotten a couple of summer data science internship offers, from State Farm, Poly, and have some more interviews slated at Volvo and gm. I’ve declined State Farm, verdict out on other ones. Wondering if I should just say YOLO and stop applying till I go through Spotify process since I already have Southwest spring and will have full time offer from this as well, or take an offer from one of my non target companies, and just look for applying to my target companies 1-2 years removed from school? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Spotify - Opens 11/15 Nerd Wallet - Rejected Acorns - no DS intern Zillow - nothing Fundrise - no internships Southwest Airlines - Accepted Spring Offer #data #datascientist #intern #summer2022 #fintech #decision

Chances of getting interview is slim and making past the interview is slimmer. Accept the offer which you have in hand. You can always renege if things go as planned. Offer in hand is better than two in the bush

@amazon I appreciate you responding, only thing I worry about is will I have any regret, I worry about reneging to but I guess like ultimately it’s a huge company so I have to what I have to do for myself? I like Southwest a lot, so I wouldn’t be disappointed missing out on Spotify and just staying on at Southwest after the spring, I say that but I was super sad when I made final rounds for Facebook to only get rejected.

No worries OP. Life gives a lot of opportunities. You will get more chances in life to interview. Best thing about getting a job is that only one acceptance count no one cares how many times you failed. Just keep applying

Also, stalk people who have previously worked there. Mostly for internships companies like Spotify has select schools from they hire very regularly. You will get to see a pattern in the kind of people they invite for an interview. I don’t want to shatter your dream and rooting for your success but process has lot of red taping. All the best

@amazon thank you a lot for responding, I definitely get what you are saying about the read tape, thinking about the sheer number of applicants makes me nervous, I just wonder if I just take a job at somewhere I wasn’t hopping for, did I just waste time not accepting the GS offer. If that makes any since

Well I would say GS is very respected company . If you had worked there for 2 years then it would have opened a lot of door for you. After that You might have easily gotten interviews from Spotify and similar tier companies

💯 on what both Amazons above said.(1 st one especially). You never know what's gonna happen. I would say landing a Full-Time role @spot might be easier than an internship.
