What EV To Get Now?

Which EV would you buy now? Looking mainly at Teslas and Hyundai Ioniqs with < 60K budget Tesla Pros: - Superchargers - Better acceleration - Autopilot Hyundai Ioniq Pros: - Less expensive - Longer range - 800V Architecture - Quieter cabin/better interior

Ionic doesn't look that good imo Do you care about the looks/style?

Google carbuyer OP Feb 2, 2023

Yeah agree Teslas look better. But I guess it's a subjective call

Both are 2 of the most hideous cars of 2023

I want to like the Ionic but, the rear gives me too much CLS vibes.

800V architecture will get you < 30 mins fast charging. Tesla is a dinosaur with outdated 400V architecture that will give you > 50 mins “fast” charging for the same number of miles. Also compare the technology and quality between Hyundai and Tesla and you have a clear winner

But 800V if you can find it. Not as widespread or reliable as Tesla network… 400V at a high current rating is super fast. You need to get a higher end Tesla though.

GL getting the Ioniq without a markup

Verizon cybrcowboy Feb 2, 2023

Wait for Porsche Macan EV or Audi Etron Q6. My only issue with Tesla is ride comfort and quality control/service experience. Much better with Porsche and Audi. This is coming from a current Tesla owner. I’m trying to get a Porsche EV next.

Google carbuyer OP Feb 2, 2023

I was eyeing the Macan EV as well, but heard it got delayed to 2024

Why would Ioniq be cheaper? Model Y is only $53K before tax credit

Google carbuyer OP Feb 2, 2023

Ioniq 5 is 45K and EV6 is 48K. Car and driver is expecting Ioniq 6 to be around 48K as well (assuming no dealer markup)

LinkedIn 1avacado Feb 2, 2023

Ioniq 5 isn't eligible for the tax credit, is it? Dealers would be moronic to markup with the current interest rates and much more competitive Tesla pricing

One regret I have when I bought my A6 was that I should have pushed a little harder and bought the more expensive Model Y, 3 years back. I was penny pinching then and now I just regret a lot. Don’t worry about money. If you can afford it, buy a car that you can stretch afford. You may find it difficult for a year. But long term you won’t regret

Tesla "autopilot" is a con. It makes you complacent and could be lethal someday. Until they become truly autopilot.
