I am based in Barcelona Spain. I was working remotely for Hopper as a lead Android Engineer with a TC: 200k(150k base, 50k RSUs) but I was extremely bored and unhappy after 7 months of work then I got laid off for financial troubles. Before I worked at Glovo as tech lead then a member on the platform team with TC: 100K€(70 base, 30 RSUs) where I spent 3 years. Now I just received an offer from Trainline for a principal android engineer position with base: 105k and 5000 RSUs with a 3 year cliff vesting period, which are worth today 1.5m GBP, after a 40% drop from its ATH. Do you think this is a good move? Thx in advance Edit: I added a poll. Also the stocks are vested fully after a 3 year cliff. YOE: 10 years Glovo is a private company just sold to delivery hero and triggered a liquidity event allowing me to cash out. Last mile delivery industry Hopper is a private company with '2 years till IPO', but I didn't vest a single stock but the severance was good. Travel + fintech Trainline is a public company. Green travel #tech #android #principal
Are you joking? If that's a 4 year vest, then your TC is 525k. That's amazing.
Whoa, that's an amazing package! If you don't mind me asking, how many total years of experience do you have? You must be a rockstar as an engineer :D
Thanks 😊 10 years of experience
Poll.
3 year cliff usually means you vest no stocks until you complete 3 years. Aren’t you worried they’ll fire you after 2 years and 11 months?
Yes I am, but the guy I am replacing has been there for 6 years
Also it's not easy to fire someone in Spain. Labor laws here are good
I’m considering an offer from hopper, are they having layoffs?
I’m ex-hopper. Would seriously consider any other opportunity. Have over 12 YOE, and can say hopper was by an enormous margin the worst combination of WLB/TC/Personal Growth/Career Growth/Pure chaos/incompetent management/misleading company I have ever been at.
We are not having layoffs. We have lots of cash and runway is very long. zjWD48 has been posting the comment above in every Hopper related thread for some reason, but most people have a positive experience. Turnover is low and personal growth opportunities are abundant. Great TC - base is very competitive and the stock upside is huge.
Trainline's current stock price is 325GBX. GBX is in pence. You're looking at 5000 x 3.3GBP = 16,500GBP after 3 years.
BarnaHop, I hope you’re alright… If this is the case, I’d also would’ve missed something like this… This sucks
The worst thing is that when I was negotiating the recruiter didn't say anything when I mentioned the stock is 200 pounds less than the ATH
This is the saddest thing I have read on this app 😢
No, it's terrible.
Why so?
