People at Uber, Lyft, Waymo, Cruise, Tesla -- wtf happened to self-driving cars? They were all the rage ~5 years ago and it seems to have just simmered out and no one talks about it now. Looks like another example of 80% of the work taking 20% of the time (and 100% of the promos) and techies got bored of having to grind through the difficult but crucial parts? (Strict regulation isn't an excuse, we all know self-driving cars aren't ready whether or not lawmakers allow it)
People need funding to grind for the difficult parts, sir! If anything, it’s the investors who got bored of it not giving results fast enough.
Book a flight ✈️ come to sf and watch it on road - cruise cars mostly
But I have to say, I'm seeing much fewer self driving testing cars on the street than pre-covid. I used to see at least once a week, but almost non right now. (In bay area)
Where in the Bay do you live? I see like 10 cars per day in SF at least
All self-driving grifters have moved on to AI.
Self-driving is AI ☠️😵
And AI developers are moving to Data Science and Machine Learning.
The hype shifted to blockchain and now to AI. Self driving cars are so 2018.
Can we please bring the hype back. This is probably the single most useful idea to come out of the 2010s. We need to see it to completion.
Self driving cars are ai though
Development is fully complete. Musk swore on Cathy Wood that this year robotaxis are coming for sure 😂
Fully complete just need another 20 years of testing
I see so many self driving cars in SF
Waymo, Cruise already have real services in some cities. Argo AI, Zoox acquired. TuSimple got into China scandal. Embark got bought. Some autonomous bus already running in some small communities or areas.
*More specifically 1% of the value of embark some of it software assets were bought
Aurora is still here 🖐
Waymo is operating in SF. I’ve been in them several times and it’s marvelous
Amazingly gross. Who cleans the interiors?
Mine were absolute spotless, in all 8 rides.
Problem is that current AI can’t tell the difference between a plastic bag, a ball and a child. Driving is easy. Understanding the real world is hard.
Not my experience w Waymo thus far. It’s assertive and safe (8 cross SF drives at busy hours in)
It's hard for meta people to understand real world, but it is solved by Waymo in some of the cities, even the challenging San Francisco. Get out of metaverse, and open your eyes! (and be efficient as it's the efficiency year, no?)
