I'm interested in hearing from folks who have worked at both Twitch and Amazon recently. How do the two companies compare? What are the cultural differences? What are the functional differences (tech stack, internal tools, etc)? What are the compensation and benefit differences (medical, total comp, etc)? And last but not least, which do you prefer and why? Level: Amazon L7 TC: $660k #amazon #twitch
They've got Theo
Twitch has capped upside for roles
What does that actually mean? Lower TC ceilings? My Amazon comp lost -74% of its value in the last year so that may not be a big deal :D In my opinion, Amazon does the same. They comp you in stock in a way where you share all the risk with them but have caps / will get adjusted down if the upside is too much.
cpnkix, what do you mean specifically?

Same TC based on location, similar benefits, better offices and free food. Native AWS, soon fully on Amazon Builder Tools. Separate HR, adjusted leveling guideline for managers only, quicker planning cycle than the OP1 process which we still follow. Much better culture focused on our product but it's failing to scale and getting worse each year. Significantly less politics makes tech collaboration easier, it's still not easy.
This is all very helpful β thank you. Although the moved to builder tools makes me uneasy π
More politics due to lack of processes and accountability allowing people to build their own fiefdoms. Lower hiring bar - people are talented but generally over-leveled compared with similarly experienced peers at Amazon. Rampant discrimination. Leadership lacks a cohesive vision for the future, not very customer focused - very focused on trying to become profitable. Creators are miffed. Planning is chaotic. A lot of passive aggressive behavior and backstabbing. Generally better WLB tho.
Very different. Amazon letβs acquisitions keep their culture for the most part. Jute have their own tools (mostly)
