At Cisco it Seems like everyone know but no one wants to say..... I was thinking about starting here after I graduate but, I'm really considering just doing another term at internship term Microsoft as a masters student. The silence on this question is driving me mad.
100k at NC is 140k in bay. You could practically get a 1 bedroom apartment for 750 bucks there.
Can you please refer me to google??? I am working in here at Cisco as A Software Engineering intern. I am leetcoding as we speak. I will likely be doing my masters in Machine Learning. Low pay terrifies me.
It looks google has an office there... didn’t realize google had so many locations
Guessing $75-90k
I hope not.... I made $7650/month as a Microsoft intern.... granted it was in Seattle but, if they offer me $75k I'm going to continue in school to get my masters.... I know I sound like a brat but, Cisco is way too frowned upon for me to just willy-nilly accept $75k. When U.S INTERNS Make more than that. Interns.
Maybe obvious question I missed if it was in the OP. What company?
100 k is extremely good for a bachelors student in NC
I would look elsewhere. It is easier to bounce around earlier in your career. You can live a great life on 80-100k early in your career in markets like Raleigh. There are probably more exciting orgs to join, if it was between Cisco and Masters...I would get Masters no doubt.
At Cisco RTP you can expect a base salary of 65-75k as a grade 4 (bachelors) or 75-90k (masters)
Three years ago, during the interview they offered me 70k for RTP for new grad and I think 5k for relocation. I found it weird they didn’t even want to ask me coding questions. It wasn’t just me either, there were a bunch of people in line that were offered the same.
They're goin to have to kiss my ass. I thought it was very strange that they didnt even want to look at my projects on github. I'm just going to use the fact that I got great and recent name recognition on my resume(2 terms at Microsoft and 1 at Cisco and 1 at Northrop Grumman) and persue my masters after this intership. Thank God for Blind app. Had it not been for this app, I would've resumed this internship without even leetcoding. Now that I know what's waiting for me at the end of the tunnel, I'm going to hit hacker rank/leetcode like mtherfcker Thank you so very much for your input. Because of everyone on here, I'm not going to be taken by surprise, I know what I need to do.
Yeah, when they offered me, I thought the same too lol. I never took the offer. Keep up the motivation, it will pay off. Good luck bro.
Whoever said $100k in RTP is $140k in the Bay is a damn liar lmao I make $150k here under 30 and I own a house with land and can do whatever I want in NC. I would say $100k here is like 2-250k in the bay. Easily. However — to OP: you can probably expect like 90-100, but you want to do pure SWE work, so Cisco isn’t even your main goal. You should be shooting for FANG style companies, not just because they are great pay, but they’re pure digital and need SWE folks. Cisco does need them, but they don’t value them as highly as someone like Sales or Network Engineers. Go where the $ is if that’s what you’re trying to do. I do think you might want to bring yourself down a tad, though. It’s a long windy road ahead of you — be careful. Best of luck!
I guess I just scared myself when I saw that I would potentially make 70k starting when In Seattle at Micro i was 108k starting. But, once i looked at it, it actually appears that micro isnt making all that much compared to me in terms of Cost of living. I dont want to soung bratty. Also, since we're blind to eachother, I hope my next question to you isnt bad: how did you manage to make it to $150k?. What level are you? I expect to start at G6 since I have work experience dating back to 2017 as a software engineer. Lastly, just to clarify, i plan to get my masters degree and work in embedded software engineering which mean both purely hardware and purely software. In other words, I operate at the data and physical layer. This is why I dont see how network engineers would be valued more (per say) than software/firmware engineers I would expected it to be of an equal value.
$70k as an undergrad in NC is pretty good, dude. You’re also not taking into account the ESPP, stock, bonus plan, 401k match that vests immediately, WFH pretty much whenever, 4 weeks of PTO every year, etc. I started around 70 and doubled it within 5 years. If you want Bay Area money, then go to the Bay Area — but don’t compare CoLs back and forth. $100k in Seattle is not even close to as good as $70-80k is here in RTP.
I’d shoot for 100k, but I don’t know much about the job opportunities in North Carolina. Unless you have roots there, I’d apply to tech hubs as well since you would get a relocation package
