Preparing now for e5 onsite. Reading Grokk and also moving into blogs/papers from fb. I dont think I quite have time for DDIAs, but I will certainly read it before the end of the year once Im done interviewing. What is looked for beyond what grokk offers? I always rabbit hole and ask “why” conistently while diving through their material. In particular, given someone’s interview performance was an e4, what would have boosted them to e5? What is a great resource for closing that gap? I have roughly 1 month more of prep. Already feeling pretty good about coding. thanks in advance :D 5yoe - probably insufficient system design experience, but excited to learn ans close the gap
Product design is APIs. Not related to sys design much if at all. Expectation is that you can lead the discussion. You are proactive in finding pitfalls and discussing trade-offs. No hints needed.
I feel API design is based on at least shallow understanding of system design. Is there really no overlap?
There's very little. You're way more focused on the product as a user experience, and how apis deliver that
If you have a month and you don’t need to practice coding, you might have time to read the first 2 sections of DDIA (last section is OLAP and less needed for product design). I’d do all grokking first though
