I heard that the famous PIP system was invented at GE. I doubt GE does that now since they don't pay very well for people to tolerate it. If you go too hard with the PIP then you have to pay SDE2s with 2 YOE 400k for them to agree to work for you like Amazon. Now that Google has become the latest PIP factory with SCI/GRAD quotas, Meta reportedly are doubling their URA quotas, and Amazon raising their PIP quotas as well, I think that this correlates to an end of the growth mindset that allows for mistakes, creativity, risk taking. Google used to let engineers work on side projects on company time that led to the creation of Gmail, that's not happening anymore. Meta is probably not "moving fast and breaking things anymore." Everyone at Amazon is in full on CYA mode. I see a pattern where engineers just want to write docs and have others execute on their docs, because writing a bug can be used as a data point to get you PIPed. There was probably a day AOL, myspace, oracle, microsoft, yahoo, sun microsystems, IBM were seen as the best employers to work for. Amazon has lost its reputation some time ago, and it looks like Google, Meta and other big tech firms are loosing their appeal as well. Any guesses of what the next generation of innovative companies are?
Maybe AI/ML focused startups like Open AI?
OpenAI? Dare to say Stripe as well.
I think it’s over
How are we in the same ranks as IBM? Lol wtf
Op is delusional and likely very young

Why
Microsoft and Apple have always been around, still will be. Google will probably last long as well. Amazon too even. Relax.
The question was not who’s remain a dinosaur. OP wants to find out who’s gonna experience similar progress over the years.
