I worked at Google in ads marketing (tech role). Here's the type of people I came across...Google seemed to love this type of person (not MECE š) : - MBA types - Consultant types (ex-McKinsey, Bain etc) - their workday consists of back-to-back meetings - Deck work (putting together presentations on other, usually technical, teams' work) - Self-promotion pros - constantly showcasing the above mentioned decks. Booking time in hour long meetings to talk about their deck. - people fluent in biz speak What have been the implications of structuring the org like this, and hiring people like this? (I get you need good communicators to run a company, but ads marketing seemed like it was full of self-promoters/box tickers) #google
You do need good communicators to spearhead events.
You're saying that the ADs team was partial to people who were good at ADvertising themselves?
Google is all about fancy degree and uptight folks. See where they landed now.
Have you ever talked to other engineers? I like what I do, but holy hell a lot of engineers are beyond socially inept
Talked to an engineer (Iām not one) at my company, he told me something I found really insightful. He said that even tho engineers could be very socially awkward, at least theyāre more likely to mean what they say instead of someone who might be two-face to you. Itās a breath of fresh air when so much corporate politics are being played

These people weren't building cool stuff tbh.
In the docs they were
