Can anyone provide examples of when having a diverse workforce really benefitted their company ? I’m trying to compile evidence for this
Diversity brings different view points which breeds innovation. Diversity is one of the core components in driving change anywhere from biology to politics.
Do you have any specific examples ? Like from Dropbox
You mean like white people prefer statically typed languages and black people prefer dynamically typed languages ?
Creates more empathy among employees and creates different points of view
Yup. If left to blinders, these people will start burning crosses
With RTO, I like the diversity atleast my eyes and heart are happy.
Different people are drawn in by companies in different ways. There is such a thing as cultural identity and groups of people if you want to reach that you need to understand those things. You'd want diversity to understand what those differences are and how to market and sell to those people. Some of the biggest business examples in business books during college are the US going to work with the Japanese for aircrafts and immediately offending them and not realizing it because they were a bunch of American white guys who had no clue the customs and cultural differences
Yet if those same Japanese people came to the US and did things that offended people here, we would say that we should tolerate other cultures. It’s all about optics.
That's irrelevant to the topic presented in the original post. You're also not giving an example, just making a generic claim to suit your agenda and live in a victim mindset. You do you boo boo
Benefit public relations.
“Diversity” is the way the left medias and establishment use to brainwash people. It’s more politically motivated rather economically driven. If it benefits the companies, there would be no advocacy for diversity, because the market can do it automatically. In a nutshell, many companies don’t want the so called diversity, but they have to do it because of public pressure
Very well said
Still stuck in Econ 101 where you think everyone acts rationally and in their best interest? Especially in market economies? Hahaha
People misunderstand the value of diversity. Commonly quoted as the reason for the benefits of diversity is “different ideas and experiences coming together” etc. Really the reason diversity is good is because it creates a bigger candidate pool. In other words, the reason that the all-star team is better than any individual team is because the all-star team is drawing the best players from a wider pool (namely all of the teams). Similarly, a group of the best people from a certain town will not be as strong as a group of the best people in a state, which will not be as strong as a group of the best people in a nation, etc.
True diversity means different ideas and different information, not necessarily different colors of skin or genders
It also makes it harder to consolidate power and build toxic teams. How many of you would join an org that is suspiciously comprised of one ethnicity , for example? It’s a raging red flag and guaranteed toxic cesspool.
Example: "Xbox gaining market share in Japan" Initially it was a bunch of Americans trying to promote the product out there, and they failed. Once they opened an office in Japan and hired locals, they were able to gain market share because those locals understood the culture in Japan, and could adjust the marketing and game content accordingly And there's your example of why diversity is necessary at a corporation. Understand that diversity doesn't mean hiring unqualified people just because of their ethnicity. It means hiring from a larger, more diverse pool of candidates. If you do that, then you're bound to find a diverse set of qualified candidates, and if you don't, then it's indicative of a larger issue in the society
I wouldn’t consider that diversity. Opening up an office in an area you are trying to operate in is standard, and almost opposite to diversity. So they tried using their diverse teams to succeed in that market and failed so they hired monolithic locals…
By opening in Japan AND hiring local Japanese people, they literally diversified their workforce to help them appeal to a Japanese audience.. I didn't say they simply opened an office in Japan
The outcome of pushing for a certain level of diversity is you have less qualified people or 2nd rate people you had to hire which will affect your success. There may be some benefits like different viewpoints and experiences but those aren’t necessarily tied to race.
