Where to rent $4k budget near Tesla (Fremont)

Looking for advice on a safe area to rent SFH not too far from Tesla, don’t want to spend more than $4k a month. Currently based East Coast, never been to Bay Area. Please be nice lol I am not keen for this move at all but my husband got his dream job at Tesla so I’m trying to be positive and supportive.

Do good schools matter to u ? If so, 4K won’t get u a SFH in Fremont 😶

Thanks for the reply! Can you advise where might be in budget that’s no more than 30 min commute?! Good school will be needed from august 2023. Safety is my main concern for the first year there.

30 mins commute radius would be from union city in the north to Milpitas in the south

North SJ/Milpitas should be around that number. Take into account 200-300/month on utilities.

Thank you! Is that area away from the stink I keep reading about whilst researching?!

Nope! It does stink sometimes.. but offers good location and schools.

Try Albany, CA. Schools are good. It’s right next to Berkeley. Commute -wise it will be almost 30-40m via 880.

Fremont itself has decent 4k SFH options. It’s a decent city for families and most schools are good too. https://sfbay.craigslist.org/search/apa?search_distance=5&postal=94538&max_price=4000&availabilityMode=0&housing_type=6&sale_date=all+dates

I have lived in Fremont for over 18 years, it is now overcrowded and city’s crime rate has increased over the years but it is still the best place to live whole of the US. I’ve lived in NJ, Boston, LA, Seattle for small terms like 1-2 yrs but Fremont is much better. You can get 3-4 bedroom house around 4k. Mission area is expensive but there is ardenwood and north gate with school ratings over 9-10 (high school) … Milpitas sucks as only one area has 8 rated schools … SJ is little far from Tesla factory and schools are not that good in most areas with rents even higher … you can also try in Newark which is a not a bad place but schools suck (send kids to private schools) but it’s location is great in terms of connectivity to all parts of the bay !!! Good luck

Even warm springs and Irvington has good schools

Thank you everyone for such thoughtful and helpful responses! If his role is hybrid, do you think Foster City would be much too far away? I am finding the crime there is negligible and it looks really beautiful. We would consider an apartment or townhome for the right neighborhood!

Uber zQsS82 Mar 26, 2022

Foster city to Fremont during commute time will be an hour of driving
