I recently joined Bloomberg and am working at the 731 Lexington office. I have a budget of $3k a month and am thinking of a 1 bedroom apartment. Is that an ideal budget for Manhattan? Trying not to stay in Jersey because I am looking for a 20-30 min commute at most. Please advise on what is the best option.
Checkout places like exchange place in JC, commute is about 30 mins. Rent will fit your budget. And you get sick views if you find the right apartment. No idea about everything else you asked.
Thanks for the insight buddy. I will look into exchange place.
TC or GTFO
live in Manhattan if you want to have fun and have unmatched experience. don't live in jc to save cash. you'll be selling your soul if you do that. I have lived in multiple places in Manhattan and it's suburbs. trust me and do not live in suburbs, unless you have a family.
I want to live in Manhattan as well but the market is crazy and just can’t find the right apartment.
that's tough luck bro
You can find a decent 1Br/1Ba in East Village or LES for ~3k. Check out pre-war buildings if you're not too concerned with amenities. If you're new to the city or fresh out of school index on fun over living conditions. DO NOT live in JC, unless you have a friend group that lives there as well. The "20-30 minute commute" on the PATH is valid during the day, especially during rush hour, but not so much for late-night service. Expect to spend $70 ubering from the city to JC if you're coming home from a night out. Your NYC friends will also be less likely to make the trek out there to visit you 😉. If you're stuck on budget, I'd strongly suggest Brooklyn or Queens (LIC has a lot of SWE) over Hoboken or JC.
Don’t live in Manhattan they are chopping up apartments in the most unethical way and charging 3k a month. Commuting is just fine & pretty easy. Look in the outer boroughs
