Received two offers this week: Facebook and Pinterest for L5 roles in infrastructure teams. Currently i am making 370k as Staff at LinkedIn (kind of low compared to other staff at LI) with 5yoe. Fb offered me total tc of 400k whereas Pinterest offered 475k. Similar joining bonus from both. I am inclined towards Pinterest due to lot of learning and growth opportunities. Also wlb is good at Pinterest. But on the other hand scared by upcoming recession fears which might lead to layoff at Pinterest whereas fb would be stable. Blind folks, can you share your thoughts on the offers ? Would start a separate thread on prep tips. Please don't ask it here.
congrats ops, can you break down your offers? I'm considering E5 offer from FB too but it's currently only 300K (not including 15% or signon) Many of my friends left Pinterest after 4y. perhaps you need to consider refresher policies.
I am not including sign on bonus in tc but did include 15%bonus. If your friends stayed for 4years, that's a good thing because in bay area people change jobs every 2-3 years. Tc diff would cover for refreshers at fb. So I won't be making less at Pinterest over 4 years. And I don't plan to stick out for so long. 3-4 year tenure would be good enough for me. BTW 300k is very low. Mine is close to 370k without 15% bonus.
thx, it's the initial verbal offer, definitely lowball. I'm working on improving it. Pinterest is quite relaxing from what I heard
I am afraid of working much much longer for almost no pay increase after taxes at fb 😀
I was in a similar situation recently and joined Pinterest. Hoping for the best 🤞
Did you join at L5 or L6 at Pinterest? How has been your experience so far?
L5 and my experience has been great so far.
370k at 5yoe is really low.
Yeah it should be close to 900k
Don’t get me started...
Please specify the location. Does fb @Bellevue also has bad WLB ?
Bay area
Pinterest Take the risk for 2 years Switch later if things don't work out. Facebook will always exist. Pinterest have high chance of growing faster. (They are 3rd in US already with such a small employee count) In any company you will have to work harder than LinkedIn based on what I have heard.
If your main worry is lay-off during recession, I have few points for you to consider 1) Unlike 2007, many companies this time wont be caught flat footed when/if recession hits. If you check, business spending has been low by many public/private companies. They are holding on to cash to potentially spend during recession. I am not saying there won’t be any impact but the fall won’t be rough 2) Even if layoffs are inevitable, non critical business roles will be eliminated first. Next might be some folks in future looking projects. That has been my experience from the last recession So, relax! Don’t let the most corner case affect your decision. Looks like you are trending towards Pinterest. Go for it. All the best.
I had to make the same choice, and I chose Pinterest, don't regret it at all
How long back did you join Pinterest?
Within 12 months
No brainier Pin. 30k increase from LinkedIn to FB simply not worth it.

Is "From the River to the Sea" So Wrong?
Pinterest will not be a growth story for long , I know a few friends who left recently, decide based on which team you liked .
I have opposite feedback from folks working there. It depends on individual experience at the company..I personally feel they have lot of room to grow their revenue.
Sounds good - you have better information why ask strangers and get more confused - you won’t get any additional data point that will change your mindset and it shouldn’t as well. I make my choices based on my own learnings and contacts and I stick to it and don’t get worried.
