Hi, The green card process takes years, and is composed of 3 steps (for employment based green card): PERM, I-140 and AOS. I am wondering which step takes longest time to complete. Also, chinese and indian takes much longer time to complete their GC. I understand that US limit number of visa/country. But i am wondering which steps among the above there takes into account which country u are from? Or for everyone, PERM, I40, AOS take same amount of time, but after that there will be queue per country (waiting time for GC to be issued after AOS) -> which makes waiting time for Indian becoming too long. Thx
“ I understand that US limit number of visa/country” Do you?
I don't think you understand the process. But to answer your question: the AOS is the part where per country cap is applied and hence takes the longest time.
Thanks. It is very helpful info.
You got to the line when it was already very long... Sorry bud.
Reminder - you're not entitled to a green card.
All the steps. Time it takes depends on your priority date and that depends on your nationality.
Tickle yourself and realize that green card may never happen and you or any H1B are not promised or entitled to get a green card. Note: am a h1b...
Look around and see how many Indians are here.
Politics, that’s why!
Hi OP, The PERM and I-140 take the same time for everyone regardless of country of birth. After the I-140 is approved, your priority date is locked in as the day when your PERM was filed. After that, if you are from a backlogged country, you will have to wait several years before being able to file your I-485. The date when you can file your I-485 depends on your country of birth. Check out the US visa bulletin charts. They are broken down by whether your country of birth is China, India, Mexico, Phillipines, or Rest of World.
